To download companion audio for a LeapStart book, install LeapFrog Connect on a PC or Mac, touch an inside page of the book with the LeapStart stylus, then connect the player to the computer with its included USB cable. Follow the prompts in LeapFrog Connect and wait for the transfer to finish.
What you need before you start
- A LeapStart player and the activity book whose audio you want to install.
- A PC or Mac with LeapFrog Connect for LeapStart installed. LeapFrog directs owners to check its current system requirements if the installer will not run; the available support information does not establish specific operating-system versions.
- The USB cable supplied with the player.
The audio is installed on the LeapStart player for use with its activity book. LeapFrog’s instructions describe downloading companion audio through LeapFrog Connect, not downloading a separate audio file for general playback.

Download and install the book audio
- Install and open LeapFrog Connect. Download the LeapStart version of the application from LeapFrog’s support or Connect pages, install it on a PC or Mac, and launch it.
- Identify each book on the player. Turn on the LeapStart and touch the stylus to an inside page of every new book for which you want audio. The player prompts you to connect it to a computer to download that book’s companion audio.
- Connect the player. Use the included USB cable to connect LeapStart to the computer. Follow any instructions shown in LeapFrog Connect. The software locates and installs audio for books identified by touching their pages. The parent user guide says the power light flashes green while content is downloading.
- Finish the transfer. When the download is complete, eject the player from the computer and disconnect the cable.
To play the installed content, open the activity book and touch a word or picture with the stylus.

Try the basic connection checks first, in this order:

- Install fresh, high-quality batteries in the player.
- Reconnect it using the USB cable supplied with LeapStart. Some other cables provide power but do not transfer data.
- Try another USB port on the computer.
- Restart the computer, then reconnect the player and reopen LeapFrog Connect.
Use Repair Mode if the basic checks do not work
LeapFrog’s support FAQ describes this procedure for a player that is still not recognized:
- Open LeapFrog Connect and attach the player to the computer.
- Turn the player off.
- Press and hold Volume Up, then press and hold Power while continuing to hold Volume Up.
- Release both buttons when the power light flashes red and amber.
Support instructions can change, so consult LeapFrog’s current repair guidance before using this mode. If the player remains unrecognized, contact LeapFrog Support.

How much audio can the player hold?
LeapFrog Support reported approximately 180 MB of available memory in a FAQ dated June 9, 2016, and estimated that about twelve books’ audio could fit at once on average. This is an approximate manufacturer estimate, not a guarantee: audio file sizes vary, so the number of books that fit depends on the titles installed.
LeapStart and LeapStart 3D book compatibility
LeapFrog says all available LeapStart books play audio on LeapStart 3D. Books marked with the 3D logo also provide animations when used with LeapStart 3D; that animation feature is specific to that model. This compatibility statement covers LeapStart and LeapStart 3D, not every LeapFrog system.

If downloads are unavailable
LeapFrog has described service downtime that can prevent initial setup and new audio downloads while leaving books already downloaded playable. That notice explains downtime behavior but does not establish that the service is currently down. If setup is correct and downloads still fail, check LeapFrog’s live support information for a current service notice.
