LazyLinux is a preconfigured desktop distribution based on Void Linux, with Xfce presented as its default X11 edition. It offers a ready-to-use desktop approach to Void; it is a separate project from upstream Void, which also publishes its own Xfce live image.

What is LazyLinux?

LazyLinux is a downstream distribution built on Void Linux. The LazyLinux project describes it as a preconfigured desktop system and identifies XBPS as its package manager and runit as its init system. Those are project descriptions, not independent performance or support assessments. See the LazyLinux homepage.

Void describes itself as an independent rolling-release distribution developed from scratch, rather than as a fork, and says it prioritizes stability over bleeding-edge software. That is the upstream project’s characterization; it does not establish that LazyLinux is faster or more stable than another distribution. See the Void Handbook.

Does LazyLinux come with Xfce?

LazyLinux presents Xfce as its default X11 edition, with a panel-and-menu desktop workflow. The project also lists other desktop flavors, so Xfce is not the only option. Check the LazyLinux project page for the flavors currently offered.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Void itself also provides Xfce graphical live images, as well as base images and local or network installation options. The practical distinction is that LazyLinux is presented as preconfigured, while Void offers its own upstream installation choices; the available information does not establish a controlled comparison of included software or setup effort. Void’s available images and installation options are listed on its downloads page.

How to download and install LazyLinux

LazyLinux is distributed as downloadable ISO files. Since release files and directions can change, start with the project’s current downloads and follow the instructions attached to the specific image you choose.

  1. Open the LazyLinux SourceForge listing and identify the current ISO for your intended desktop flavor and architecture.
  2. Read the project’s directions for writing that image to installation media. The reviewed listing does not establish a recommended USB capacity, so do not assume a particular size from Void’s documentation.
  3. Check for a checksum or signature published for that exact LazyLinux ISO, then verify the downloaded file using the project’s own instructions. A SHA-256 value appears with the reviewed SourceForge artifact, but that does not establish a LazyLinux signing workflow. Void’s checksum and signature procedure is upstream guidance, not a way to authenticate a LazyLinux image automatically.
  4. Boot the computer from the prepared media and follow the current LazyLinux installation instructions. The reviewed sources do not establish a LazyLinux-specific installer sequence, so use the release’s own guide rather than assuming Void’s steps are identical.

A SourceForge listing reviewed for this article showed an ISO named lazylinux-live-x86_64-20260810-xfce.iso and a SHA-256 checksum. That is a dated listing detail, not confirmation that this file remains the newest release.

Hardware requirements and release status

No LazyLinux-specific minimum CPU, memory, or storage requirement is established in the reviewed project material. Void’s handbook publishes minimums for certain base systems but warns that Xfce images need more resources. Those upstream base figures should not be treated as LazyLinux requirements because LazyLinux adds its own software.

The SourceForge listing labels LazyLinux beta. That indicates the project’s stated maturity status in the listing reviewed for this article; check the current listing for any change before installing it on a machine that needs a stable, supported system.
