There are two different downloads a reader may mean by “the latest MIPS architecture”: a reference for the legacy MIPS32/MIPS64 instruction-set architecture, or documentation for a current MIPS-branded processor. The official MIPS32 Instruction Set Manual located here is Revision 6.05; current MIPS P8700 documentation instead covers a RISC-V-based processor with MIPS-defined custom instructions. Choose the document by architecture and processor, not by the MIPS name alone.

These documents are not interchangeable. The MIPS32 manual is an ISA reference; the P8700 guide explains a particular processor. A separate MIPS I6500-F datasheet describes MIPS64 Release 6, which is another legacy MIPS architecture context—not the P8700 architecture.

For the MIPS32 instruction set, use the MIPS32 Instruction Set Manual, Revision 6.05 (PDF). It is a general architecture reference, rather than a guide for one current processor product. The revision is identified in the manual; a release date is not stated in the cited listing, so it should not be inferred from the revision number.

The guide’s architecture context matters: P8700 implements the RISC-V RV64 base architecture and adds MIPS-defined custom instructions. It is therefore product-specific documentation for a MIPS-branded RISC-V processor, not a universal or general MIPS ISA specification. How MIPS32, MIPS64 Release 6, and P8700 documentation differ
- MIPS32 Revision 6.05: a general instruction-set manual for the legacy MIPS32 architecture.

MIPS’ company press kit and software and tools page describe its current technology and development resources in a RISC-V context. Those resources may be useful to developers, but they do not replace the architecture or product document that matches a particular core.
