Larix Broadcaster is free to download and use for core mobile streaming, but its free license has a firm time limit: Softvelum says you can stream for 30 minutes, continue for another 30 minutes with a mandatory overlay, and then the stream stops. Premium removes the streaming time limit and unlocks additional features.
What the free version includes
Larix Broadcaster is Softvelum’s live-streaming app for iOS and Android phones and tablets. Its free version covers the basic task of capturing live video or audio on a mobile device and sending it to a streaming destination. Softvelum says the vast majority of Larix Broadcaster features are available for free.
- Mobile capture and camera controls: use the phone or tablet camera, switch between front and rear cameras, and stream in portrait or landscape orientation with live rotation.
- Recording and screenshots: record content and save screenshots.
- Pause and stand-by: pause a stream or use pre-stream stand-by.
- Audio-only capture: stream audio without video.
- Streaming protocols and destinations: Softvelum’s overview lists SRT, RTMP, NDI, WebRTC, RTSP, Zixi, and RIST, and says Larix can stream to services such as YouTube Live, Twitch, and Facebook Live. Protocol access and limits are not identical across the free and Premium licenses, so check the restrictions below rather than assuming every listed protocol is unlimited.
Free streaming limits: duration, overlay, and protocols
Softvelum’s Premium page states: “Without Premium, Larix allows streaming for 30 minutes for free + another 30 minutes with mandatory overlay. Then the stream is stopped.” In practice, the free version is suited to short broadcasts or testing, not an uninterrupted long event.
Zixi has a shorter free allowance: Softvelum says it is limited to five minutes without Premium. The page also says SRT and RTMP streams have watermarks removed by Premium. WebRTC, Zixi, RTSP, and RIST do not have watermarks, but are subject to time limits. The precise access conditions can depend on the protocol and feature, so consult Softvelum’s current Larix Premium feature and subscription page before planning a broadcast around a specific protocol.

What Premium adds
Premium removes the streaming time limit for any protocol and includes features Softvelum lists as paid, including:
- HEVC encoding and SEI NTP metadata insertion.
- GPS features and Advanced Connectivity settings.
- Three or more simultaneous connections.
- Larix Talkback.
- Dolby HDR support on iOS.
- NDI support, which Softvelum lists separately from its basic Premium pricing.
Softvelum’s page lists basic Premium pricing for the United States at $9.99 per month or $119 per year, and notes that final prices can vary by country and taxes. It lists NDI in-app at $19.99 per month and describes NDI through Larix Tuner at an additional $10 per month. Larix Tuner is a web service for managing multiple Larix app instances and enabling Premium; Softvelum lists Tuner from $10 per month. These are page-stated examples, not guaranteed prices for every country or checkout.

Device and platform compatibility
Softvelum’s overview states compatibility with iOS 16.0 and Android 7.0 devices. Feature availability also depends on the device and, in some cases, a newer operating system:
- On Android, multi-camera selection is supported on Android 10 and later.
- Simultaneous front- and rear-camera capture is supported on Android 11 and later where the device supports concurrent cameras.
- Camera frame rates and other capabilities may be limited by the phone’s hardware.
- The Android app page lists support for SRT Caller, Listen, and Rendezvous modes; RTMP/RTMPS; RIST push; RTSP/RTSPS; adaptive bitrate; overlays; and external OTG USB video and audio sources. Availability may depend on the device or feature license.

Is the free license enough for your stream?
- Try the free version if you want to test mobile streaming, make a short broadcast, capture a quick update, or check whether your phone and destination work together.
- Consider Premium if a broadcast must run longer than the free allowance, you need a Premium-only feature, or you want to avoid the mandatory overlay during the additional free half-hour.
- Check before a live event if you need a particular protocol, multiple simultaneous connections, or a device-specific camera feature. A protocol appearing on the product overview does not by itself mean its free use is unlimited.
