LambdaTest and Applitools both support screenshot-based visual testing, but their documented workflows emphasize different parts of the job. LambdaTest’s SmartUI materials describe comparing screenshots captured across browsers or environments and using its API to upload screenshots and check build status. Applitools focuses on adding Eyes Visual AI to existing test frameworks and using Ultrafast Grid for cross-browser and device coverage. The right fit depends on how your suite captures pages, how you manage baselines, and who reviews visual changes.
How the two workflows differ
| Question | LambdaTest SmartUI | Applitools Eyes and Ultrafast Grid |
|---|---|---|
| Documented emphasis | Screenshot comparison across browsers or environments, plus API workflows for screenshot upload and build status. | Visual AI added to existing test frameworks, with Ultrafast Grid for cross-browser and device testing. |
| Screenshot path | SmartUI API documentation describes uploading locally captured screenshots for visual regression testing, then retrieving build status and screenshots by project or build. See LambdaTest SmartUI API documentation. | Eyes is described as integrating with existing test frameworks; Ultrafast Grid is described separately as a cross-browser and device testing grid. See Applitools documentation. |
| Baseline/environment guidance | The cited material does not establish a complete baseline-review workflow. | Baseline identity can include application, test, OS, viewport size, and browser. Applitools describes selecting a baseline environment for cross-environment comparisons and recommends Layout match level where environments visibly differ. See Applitools cross-environment guidance. |
| Price evidence | No comparable current price or quota was established in the cited material. | The vendor pricing page lists Starter at $667 per month, paid annually, with either 100,000 component checkpoints or 1,000 page checkpoints; Professional is customizable. These are vendor-listed plan terms and should be confirmed on the Applitools pricing page. |
LambdaTest says Smart Visual UI Testing compares application screenshots across browsers or environments, such as production and staging, and detects changes in layout, color, text, icons, padding, and element position. Its API documentation makes the upload-and-status workflow concrete, but the available documentation does not settle current packaging, browser or device quotas, review-interface behavior, or price.
Applitools describes Eyes as a way to add Visual AI to existing test frameworks, while Ultrafast Grid provides the cross-browser and device testing grid. The distinction matters: visual comparison and the means of generating a browser matrix are related, but not identical questions. Applitools’ support guidance says a baseline is saved within an environment defined by OS, viewport size, and browser; it also allows a baseline environment to be selected for cross-environment comparison.
Which fits an existing cross-browser test suite?
Consider LambdaTest when your screenshot capture already exists
If your tests or application tooling already produce screenshots locally, LambdaTest’s documented SmartUI API path may fit: upload those images, check build status, and fetch screenshots by project or build. Verify that the current product packaging and review workflow meet your needs before adopting it; those details are not established by the cited API and visual-testing materials.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Consider Applitools when visual AI and baseline conventions are central
If you want visual testing integrated into an existing test framework and need a defined cross-browser/device grid, evaluate Eyes and Ultrafast Grid together. Plan baseline ownership explicitly: decide who approves changes, how test and environment identity is named, and whether comparisons should use an environment-specific baseline or a selected reference environment.
Neither set of documented capabilities establishes a universal winner. Test both against the same representative pages and target matrix, then compare the resulting review effort, coverage, integration fit, and total cost at your expected volume.

How to compare them fairly
- Choose representative pages. Include stable pages and pages with dynamic content, responsive layouts, and important visual states. Use the same page versions and test data for both evaluations.
- Define the matrix. List required browsers, operating systems, devices, and viewport sizes. Confirm current availability and quotas directly with each vendor; the cited materials do not establish a complete, equivalent matrix.
- Keep capture conditions consistent. Record viewport, fonts, locale, timezone, authentication state, and any content that changes between runs. Otherwise, an environmental difference can look like a product difference.
- Test baseline behavior. Create an initial baseline, introduce a deliberate visual change, and follow the approval path. For Applitools cross-environment checks, its support article recommends Layout match level when environments may render visibly differently.
- Measure review and CI impact. Record setup work, test runtime, parallelism, failure diagnosis, review ownership, and how results fit your CI process. The vendor descriptions do not provide a neutral head-to-head performance result.
- Check commercial and security terms. Model the plan against expected test volume and required data handling, deployment, and security controls. Applitools lists Starter at $667 per month paid annually with the stated checkpoint alternatives; no equivalent LambdaTest amount or quota is established here. Confirm current terms before purchase.
Baseline and rendering decisions
Cross-browser visual checks can report legitimate differences caused by the target environment as well as unintended regressions. A comparison is useful only when the baseline policy matches the question: are you checking whether a page changed in the same browser configuration, or whether it remains acceptable across different configurations?
For Applitools, the cited cross-environment guidance describes baseline identity using application, test, OS, viewport size, and browser, and recommends Layout match level for comparisons where environment differences may be visible. For LambdaTest, the cited sources establish screenshot comparison across browsers or environments, but do not establish equivalent baseline details. Confirm the exact baseline and review controls in each current product before rollout.

Cost and vendor claims to weigh carefully
Applitools’ pricing page lists Starter at $667 monthly when paid annually, with either 100,000 component checkpoints or 1,000 page checkpoints; Professional pricing is customizable. These are the vendor’s published plan terms, not an independent price audit. The cited LambdaTest materials do not provide a comparable current price, plan allowance, or browser/device quota, so a direct price-per-checkpoint comparison cannot be made from these figures.
Applitools’ cross-browser page says it can cut test flakiness “by up to 99%.” That is a vendor claim; the reviewed page did not provide an independently attributable study for the figure, so it should not be treated as a verified comparative result. See Applitools’ cross-browser testing page.
