The latest located service report, dated October 3, 2026, described changes affecting trains to Karachi, Quetta, Rawalpindi and other cities—but it is not a live operating notice. Check your exact train and travel date with Pakistan Railways before leaving.
What caused the Lahore–Faisalabad rail disruption?
Heavy rain and flooding damaged the railway section via Sheikhupura. Floodwater breached nearby channels and eroded bridge approaches and track support around Qila Sattar Shah and Misan Kallar. Pakistan Railways suspended passenger and freight operations on the affected section for safety. Dawn reported the railway division’s account of damage at two bridges, including a major bridge near Qila Sattar Shah; the Associated Press of Pakistan reported the minister’s inspection of the collapsed bridge and damaged track near Misan Kallar on August 9.
Is the Lahore-to-Faisalabad train running?
The reports establish that operations on the affected section were suspended, but do not provide a closure-specific live status or a complete current schedule. The latest located service report was published October 3, 2026, and described train changes rather than confirming that the Lahore–Faisalabad section had reopened. Use Pakistan Railways’ Train Timings and Plan Journey tools, then confirm directly with the railway that the result applies to your booked service and date. The pages are lookup tools, not a confirmed closure-status notice.
What diversions and passenger arrangements were reported?
Arrangements changed across reports, so a train’s route or transfer should not be inferred from an older notice. The table distinguishes the dated reports and their claims.

How to check your specific train before travelling
- Look up the journey: Search your origin, destination and date in Pakistan Railways’ Plan Journey, and check the train in Train Timings.
- Confirm the operating status: Contact Pakistan Railways to verify whether your train is operating, diverted or cancelled on that date. The reported arrangements are date-specific and may have changed.
- Verify route and transfer details: Ask which stations the train will serve and whether any reported passenger transfer applies to your booking. Do not assume that a transfer described in a news report automatically applies to your ticket.
- Recheck close to departure: Confirm the departure time and route again before setting out, particularly if you are connecting from Faisalabad or another affected station.
When will the Lahore–Faisalabad railway track reopen?
The latest located restoration estimate was not a confirmed reopening date. On August 10, 2026, Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi told Dawn that construction of a new bridge and track would take around four months; he also referred to a feasibility report expected to take at least 20 days. On August 2, Dawn had reported an earlier expectation of at least one month from Pakistan Railways officials. The later ministerial estimate superseded that earlier forecast, but neither report confirms when services would resume.
