KV-Music is a self-hosted web app that its project documentation says retrieves music content from YouTube Music. It brings search, playback, library features and synced lyrics into a browser interface, with Docker Compose documented as the recommended way to run it. One title detail needs qualification: the project README lists React 18, not React 19.

What KV-Music does

The KV-Music project README describes the application as a self-hosted music streaming web app that pulls content from YouTube Music. It is an interface to that upstream service, rather than a description of a standalone catalog of locally stored music. The listed capabilities are project documentation claims; they have not been independently tested here. KV-Music project documentation

Finding and playing music

The README describes universal search across songs, albums, playlists and artists, along with YouTube Music charts, regional releases and recommendations. It lists audio and video playback modes, queue controls and a responsive web interface with PWA support.

Accounts and library features

Documented account features include cross-device pairing and account sync, liked songs and playlists, followed artists, saved albums and recently played history. These features are intended to make the self-hosted interface usable across devices, subject to the app’s setup and upstream availability.

Audio HAT Module for Raspberry Pi 4B/3B+/3B/2B/B+/A+/Zero/Zero W/Pi Zero WH,WM8960 Hi-Fi Sound Card HAT Stereo CODEC, Play/Record
  • Standard Raspberry Pi 40PIN GPIO extension header, supports Raspberry Pi series boards, Integrates WM8960 low power stereo CODEC, communicates via I2S interface.
  • Integrates dual high-quality MEMS silicon Mic, supports left & right double channels recording, nice sound quality.
  • Onboard standard 3.5mm earphone jack, play music via external earphone.
  • Onboard dual-channel speaker interface, directly drives speakers, Supports sound effects such as stereo, 3D surrounding, etc.

Synced lyrics

The project says its real-time synced lyrics draw on LRCLIB, SimpMusic and lyrics.ovh. The README does not establish that lyrics are available for every track, so availability may depend on the lyric sources and the selected music.

Does KV-Music use React 19?

The available README lists React 18, TypeScript and Zustand for the frontend. That conflicts with the title’s React 19 wording, and the available documentation does not establish whether the README is outdated or the title is inaccurate. Treat React 19 as unverified unless the repository’s current, version-pinned package manifest confirms it.

InnoMaker HiFi DAC HAT for Raspberry Pi 5/4/3B+/Zero | PCM5122 384kHz/32bit DAC Audio Card Expansion Board | Dual Oscillators & DOP | RCA/3.5mm Output, 112dB SNR
  • 【Direct-Connect HiFi DAC Expansion Board】Seamlessly integrates with Raspberry Pi 5, 4, 3B+, Zero & Zero W via 40-pin GPIO. No soldering or external wiring needed – unlock studio-grade audio at 10% of traditional cost. Features 384kHz/32bit PCM5122 DAC with dual ultra-low jitter oscillators (45.158MHz/49.152MHz).
  • 【Reference-Class Audio Engineering】TI PCM5122 reference DAC delivers 112dB SNR and -78dB THD+N, coupled with film capacitors for pristine RCA/3.5mm outputs. Master-clock mode eliminates Raspberry Pi jitter, supporting DSD over PCM (DOP) and 8kHz-384kHz sampling.
  • 【Universal OS & Software Support】Tested with Volumio, Moode, RuneAudio, LibreELEC, and Raspberry Pi OS. Stream high-res audio via network/NAS/USB storage. Onboard EEPROM enables plug-and-play configuration.
  • 【Professional Dual-Output Interface】Gold-plated RCA line-level outputs (2.1Vrms) + dedicated headphone amp (138mW@32Ω via TPA6133). Independent grounding eliminates crosstalk for studio monitors or high-impedance headphones.
  • 【Developer-Optimized Design & Support】Features ultra-low-noise power regulation + reserved IR port (GPIO26). Compliant with Raspberry Pi HAT specs, with open-source SDK, documented API, and technical support via InnoMaker Wiki (link in manual).

The documented stack also includes Rust and Axum on the backend; yt-dlp and Node.js 22 for streaming; Docker and Debian for packaging; and JSON-file storage for user accounts. Vite, TailwindCSS and PWA support are also listed. These are README descriptions, not independently confirmed details about a current release.

How to self-host KV-Music

The project recommends Docker Compose and also documents a Docker run option. Follow the current repository instructions for the exact image, command, port and configuration; those specifics should not be guessed. The README describes exposing the app on a host port, persisting user data and cache/download directories in volumes, and optionally configuring YouTube cookies.

For local development, the README lists these prerequisites:

  • Node.js 22 or later
  • Rust 1.88 or later
  • Python 3.11 or later
  • ffmpeg
  • yt-dlp

Docker is the documented deployment route for users who do not want to assemble the development environment. A Docker-capable home server or NAS could host it, but the project documentation does not establish that buying new hardware is necessary.

Operational caveats

KV-Music depends on YouTube Music and network access to retrieve and stream content. The project’s troubleshooting guidance warns that requests may encounter rate limits or bot checks, and discusses refreshing cookies, IPv6 connectivity and DNS configuration. These are maintainer-identified possibilities, not proof that every installation will encounter them. Expect upstream service and network conditions to affect setup or playback.

The available project information does not independently establish current runtime behavior, release status or legal terms governing use of upstream content. Review the repository’s current documentation and applicable service terms before deployment.
