Five Kobalt products sold or reviewed through Lowe’s deserve a closer look before you buy: the KWS-B7-20 wet tile saw, mechanics tool sets 81332, 85165 and 52321, and a 20-ounce steel-handle rip-claw hammer. Customer reviews flag possible cutting and durability issues on the saw, case and socket-retention frustrations on the mechanics sets, and one reported hammer-head failure. These are reasons to check the specific product and its tradeoffs—not evidence that the products are generally defective or that Lowe’s tools as a whole are poor.

In a Lowe’s review-page snapshot accessed October 7, 2026, model 81332 showed 4.3 out of 5 from 568 reviews. Customers praise the selection and tool quality; complaints include frustrating case hinges or drawers. One reviewer also reported missing 17 mm and 18 mm sockets in a set variant. The rating is a retailer-page snapshot, not a controlled test, and the page notes that ratings may include incentivized reviews.
Check the contents list for the exact variant you are buying rather than assuming every set sold under a similar name contains the same sockets. If you can inspect it, check that the case opens and closes properly and that its drawers or inserts keep the tools in place.
3. Kobalt Mechanics Tool Set, model 85165
Lowe’s showed 4.3 out of 5 from 1,154 reviews for model 85165 in the October 7, 2026 snapshot. Reviewers mention broken latches, drawers that jam, and inserts that do not hold sockets securely. Other customers praise the tool selection, durability and value.

The page text covers different piece-count variants, so a review about one configuration may not describe the contents of another. Confirm the precise variant and inspect the latch, drawer movement and socket fit if those details matter to your work.
4. Kobalt 277-Piece Mechanics Tool Set, model 52321
In the October 7, 2026 Lowe’s review-page snapshot, model 52321 showed 4.3 out of 5 from 915 reviews. Complaints describe jammed drawers, sockets coming loose and plastic latches that feel weak; other customers praise the tools and value. The reported concerns here are principally about the case and retention system, not documented failures of the tools themselves. Lowe’s notes that ratings may include incentivized reviews.
Before buying, consider whether the case will be moved frequently and whether loose sockets would be a problem for how you store or transport the set. Where possible, test the drawers and latch and check whether the inserts hold the sockets you expect to use.

5. Kobalt 20-Ounce Steel-Handle Rip-Claw Hammer
One Lowe’s reviewer says a plastic pin failed and the metal hammer head came loose, and describes an unsatisfactory warranty interaction. Other reviews on the same page are positive. The reported failure is serious, but it remains one customer’s account; it does not establish that the hammer is unsafe as a class or that another buyer would have the same warranty experience.
