The Kingston FURY Renegade G5 is a PCIe 5.0 x4 NVMe SSD rated for sequential reads up to 14,800MB/s—but only the 4TB and 8TB models carry that read rating. Kingston lists four capacities, with different speed and endurance ratings at each size. Whether a system can use the drive, and at what speed, depends on its M.2 slot and supported PCIe generation.
What the Kingston FURY Renegade G5 is
Kingston specifies the FURY Renegade G5 as an M.2 2280 PCIe 5.0 x4 NVMe SSD. Its listed components include a Silicon Motion SM2508 controller, 3D TLC NAND and DRAM cache. Kingston announced the drive on May 12, 2025, positioning it for gaming and high-power users; the performance figures are manufacturer claims, not independent test results. Kingston’s product specifications and launch announcement describe the product.
Speeds and endurance by capacity
Kingston’s current specification page, accessed September 27, 2026, lists these maximum sequential ratings and total bytes written (TBW) endurance ratings:
| Capacity | Sequential read, up to | Sequential write, up to | Endurance rating (TBW) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1TB | 14,200MB/s | 11,000MB/s | 1.0PB |
| 2TB | 14,700MB/s | 14,000MB/s | 2.0PB |
| 4TB | 14,800MB/s | 14,000MB/s | 4.0PB |
| 8TB | 14,800MB/s | 14,000MB/s | 8.0PB |
These are Kingston’s advertised maximum sequential speeds, not a promise that a particular computer or workload will achieve them. The headline 14,800MB/s figure applies to the 4TB and 8TB versions; the 1TB and 2TB versions have lower rated maximum read speeds. Kingston’s May 2025 announcement also claimed over 2 million IOPS, but that is likewise a company claim rather than an independently established result in the announcement.

- Blazing PCIe 5.0 Speeds – Reach up to 14,800MB/s read and 14,000MB/s write for ultra-fast load times and performance gains across games and demanding apps.
- Next-Gen Gaming & Content Creation – Designed for power users, hardcore gamers, and performance-driven builds demanding top-tier responsiveness.
- Advanced Thermal Design – SM2508 controller with 6nm lithography, low-power DDR4 cache, Buck IC, and 12-layer PCB for efficient cooling, stable power, and reliable performance.
- Easy Compatibility – M.2 2280 form factor fits seamlessly into desktops and motherboards with Gen 5x4 support for high-speed integration.
For the 8TB configuration, PC Gamer’s review-page search result reports 14,800MB/s read, 14,000MB/s write and 4,800TBW; its review date is not established there. That endurance figure differs from Kingston’s current 8.0PB rating, so treat it as a separately reported figure rather than a replacement for Kingston’s specification. PC Gamer’s SSD review page
Check compatibility before buying
The drive’s M.2 2280 shape and PCIe 5.0 x4 NVMe interface are the key requirements to verify against the computer’s manual or manufacturer specifications. An M.2 slot alone does not establish support for this drive or its maximum performance: check that the slot supports NVMe and determine which PCIe generation and lane configuration it provides. A system that supports an earlier PCIe generation may constrain performance; the cited product specifications do not establish compatibility or achievable speed for any particular PC, laptop, console or enclosure.

Also check physical clearance. Kingston lists dimensions of 80mm × 22mm × 2.3mm for the 1TB, 2TB and 4TB models, and 80mm × 22mm × 3.65mm for the 8TB model. The thicker 8TB version may matter in a space-constrained installation, so confirm the device’s clearance requirements.

Kingston lists an operating temperature range of 0°C–70°C and average power consumption of 0.27W. These are published specifications, not independent measurements of temperatures or sustained-load behavior; the maximum power figures vary by capacity on Kingston’s product page.
