If the Kindle app will not open on Windows 11, first check whether you have the older Kindle for PC app. Amazon calls it the Legacy Kindle app and says support ended June 30, 2026. Install the current Kindle desktop app from Amazon’s Kindle Apps page; Amazon lists Windows 11 as supported. If the current app still will not launch, Amazon’s published guidance does not identify a specific cause or Windows repair sequence, so avoid assuming that reinstalling or changing Windows settings will fix it.
Check whether you have the unsupported Legacy Kindle app
Amazon says the Legacy Kindle app, previously called Kindle for PC, is no longer supported as of June 30, 2026. If that is the version installed, use Amazon’s current Kindle desktop app instead. Amazon lists Windows 11 among the supported operating systems for the desktop app. Amazon’s desktop app guidance
Install the current Kindle desktop app
-
Go to Amazon’s Kindle Apps page.
-
Choose the download for your Windows computer.
-
Follow Amazon’s installation instructions, then try opening the newly installed app.

If the current app still will not open
Amazon’s available desktop guidance confirms Windows 11 support, but does not document individual launch-failure causes or provide a Windows-specific repair or reset procedure. It therefore does not establish that clearing a cache, resetting the app, using compatibility mode, or changing security-software settings will solve this problem. Do not treat those steps as Amazon-recommended fixes.
If you need help diagnosing the current app, contact Amazon Kindle support and describe your Windows version, which Kindle app you installed, and what happens when you try to launch it. If an error message appears, include its exact wording.

Use sign-out cautiously
Amazon documents signing out as a troubleshooting option, but warns that signing out deletes downloaded content and deregisters the device from the Windows app. Do not sign out unless you are prepared for that local content to be removed. Amazon’s sign-out guidance

Amazon says Kindle sync saves your reading position, notes, and highlights and makes them available across linked Kindle apps and devices. If the Windows app is unavailable, you can continue on another linked endpoint and use sync to carry that reading data across. Sync supports continuity; it is not a repair for an app that will not launch. Amazon’s Kindle sync guidance

Amazon also links to Kindle for Web from its desktop support page as an option for unsupported operating systems. That does not establish that Kindle for Web will fix a launch problem on a Windows 11 computer, which Amazon lists as supported.
