To keep private alerts off a mirrored TV, first identify how you’re sharing your screen. On iPhone or iPad, turn on a Focus mode such as Do Not Disturb before mirroring and check which people and apps are allowed through. On supported Android 14-and-later sharing flows, share a single app instead of the entire screen; Android says app sharing excludes notifications and other system interface elements from the shared display. Google Cast media-control cards on your phone are a different issue and have their own setting.
First identify what is showing and where
“Screen mirroring” can mean AirPlay from an iPhone or iPad to a TV, Google Cast, Android screen sharing, or Apple’s iPhone Mirroring feature on a Mac. The right fix depends on both the method and the symptom.
- Private alerts appear on the TV: use a Focus mode on iPhone or choose app-only sharing on a supported Android flow.
- A Cast controller appears on your Android phone: turn off Cast media-control notifications; this does not filter personal alerts on a TV.
- Connection suggestions appear on an iPhone: change AirPlay’s automatic-connection setting. This does not hide ordinary notification banners.
- iPhone alerts appear on a Mac: use the separate iPhone Mirroring notification controls.
Hide iPhone or iPad alerts during AirPlay mirroring
Apple’s documented full-screen mirroring flow is Control Center > Screen Mirroring > choose your TV or Mac. Apple’s AirPlay instructions do not document a dedicated switch that hides notification banners only on the TV while full-screen mirroring continues.

- Open Settings and choose Focus, then select a Focus mode such as Do Not Disturb.
- Review the allowed people and apps so you know which alerts can still come through.
- Turn on the Focus mode before you start mirroring from Control Center > Screen Mirroring.
Focus is a general notification control, not an AirPlay-only filter, so it may also silence or limit alerts on the iPhone or iPad. To stop mirroring, open Control Center > Screen Mirroring > Stop Mirroring. See Apple’s AirPlay instructions.
Show a video without mirroring the whole screen
If you only need to present a video, use the AirPlay control inside the video app when available instead of mirroring the entire device. That streams the video rather than displaying the full phone interface. Apple distinguishes app-level video streaming from screen mirroring in its AirPlay guidance.

Stop suggested AirPlay connection prompts
If the interruption is a prompt to connect to an AirPlay device—not a message or other alert—go to Settings > General > AirPlay & Continuity > Automatically AirPlay and choose Never. With Never, you choose a device manually; Ask provides suggested connection notifications, while Automatic allows suggested and automatic connections. This setting does not hide ordinary notification banners.
Turn off Google Cast media controls on Android
Google Cast media controls are a controller notification on the phone, not a general setting for keeping personal alerts off the TV. To dismiss a card for the current session, swipe it away. To disable the control notification persistently, use either of Google’s documented controls:
- From the notification, open its settings and turn off Show remote control notifications.
- On the phone, go to Settings > Google > Devices & sharing > Cast options and turn off Media controls for Cast devices.
Swiping the card away is temporary; it can return when you cast from another Cast-enabled app. The exact setting names or path may vary by Android device. Google also documents a separate Google Home control for other people on the same Wi-Fi: open the device tile, choose Settings > Recognition & sharing, and turn off Let others control your cast media. That limits other people’s access to media controls; it does not filter private notification banners. See Google’s Cast media control instructions.
Keep Android notifications out of the shared display
When supported, share one app instead of the whole Android screen. Android Developers says that app screen sharing on Android 14 (API level 34) and later excludes the status bar, navigation bar, notifications, and other system UI from the shared display—even when sharing an app in full screen. This is the clearest documented way to keep system notifications off the shared image while continuing to use the phone.

Availability depends on the device and the screen-sharing or casting flow. Look for an option to share a single app rather than the entire screen when starting the session. If your flow does not offer app-only sharing, this Android capability may not be available through it. See Android’s MediaProjection documentation.

Apple’s iPhone Mirroring feature is separate from AirPlay mirroring to a TV. Once iPhone Mirroring connects, the Mac automatically receives iPhone notifications and Live Activities, even when the mirroring app is not actively in use, as long as the iPhone is turned on. To stop that mirroring session, quit the iPhone Mirroring app or unlock the iPhone.
