It keeps a leather upper and woven leather-cord details, then pairs them with KEEN’s KEEN.CURVE sole. What is the KEEN UNEEK Mule WK?
Style 1033311 is an open-backed mule loafer in KEEN’s UNEEK family. It takes the loafer concept and removes the enclosed heel, making it a slip-on, while retaining hand-finished leather and woven leather-cord elements associated with the UNEEK design. KEEN’s Senior Director of Product Management, Lifestyle, Carlie Satchwell, describes opening the heel as a way to preserve a refined appearance while shifting the shoe toward a more modern, relaxed style. That explains the design intent; it does not establish that the mule fits better or performs better than the loafer.

Materials and sole: what KEEN specifies
Upper and footbed
KEEN Japan says the upper combines leather and 2.5 mm leather cord, with premium leather sourced from a Leather Working Group-certified tannery. It says the stitching and cord weaving are finished by hand. The release also describes a plant-derived-material polyurethane footbed, shaped to the foot and topped with leather. KEEN’s US page lists a premium leather upper, leather lining, leather-wrapped insole, and Eco Anti-Odor. These are manufacturer specifications, not independently verified materials testing.

Midsole and outsole
The Japan release lists a compression-molded EVA midsole and a non-marking, high-traction rubber outsole; KEEN’s US page calls its outsole higher-traction rubber. The US page gives a heel height of 1.5 inches (38 mm) and heel-to-toe drop of 0.47 inches (12 mm). Those dimensions describe the product listing, not a guarantee of how an individual wearer will experience the shoe.
What KEEN.CURVE is intended to do
KEEN describes KEEN.CURVE as a continuous curve from toe to heel, designed to support ongoing propulsion. Its Japan announcement says the sole is intended to support natural foot movement and stability. The UK-focused Notion article additionally describes high-rebound cushioning and a low-profile lug outsole. These are brand or article descriptions of design aims and features, not independent performance findings.

Weight figures use the measurements published for their respective listings: KEEN Japan gives 295 g per shoe at size 27 cm, while KEEN’s US page lists 10.41 oz (295 g) per shoe. They should not be read as a universal weight across all sizes.

Is the “mule moment” backed by trend data?
KEEN’s Satchwell characterizes mules as a representative footwear trend and says demand for easy-on, easy-off shoes with a refined style informed the design. The launch material does not supply independent sales, market-size, or consumer-preference statistics, and no named statistical study substantiates the phrase “mule moment” here. Treat it as launch framing, not a measured market conclusion.

What is and isn’t established about comfort and performance
The design combines an open heel with a curved sole, leather-wrapped footbed, EVA midsole, and rubber outsole. KEEN describes those elements in terms of comfort, movement, propulsion, grip, and stability. No independent fit, comfort, durability, traction, or performance test of the UNEEK Mule WK was identified, so those claims should be understood as design intentions or manufacturer specifications rather than verified outcomes. The published details also do not establish how securely the open-backed shape will feel for a particular foot or activity.
