Karimnagar Circle is the first circle in Telangana Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGNPDCL) to complete integration of all its substations with the utility’s Real-Time Feeder Monitoring System (RTFMS), according to reports published on 9 October 2026. The milestone covers 82 substations in Karimnagar Circle; it does not mean TGNPDCL’s entire network has reached 100% integration.

What does 100% RTFMS integration mean in Karimnagar?

Deccan Chronicle and The New Indian Express reported that all 82 substations in Karimnagar Circle had been integrated with the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system under TGNPDCL’s RTFMS initiative. Both reports attributed the announcement to TGNPDCL chairman and managing director Karnati Varun Reddy. Deccan Chronicle and The New Indian Express carried the announcement on 9 October 2026.

Here, “100%” refers to the reported completion of integration for substations in that circle. It is a deployment milestone, not a claim that every feeder or customer receives uninterrupted electricity, nor that all TGNPDCL substations are integrated.

What is RTFMS, and what does it do?

RTFMS stands for Real-Time Feeder Monitoring System. A feeder is an electricity distribution line or circuit. The reports describe RTFMS as enabling real-time observation of feeder performance and alerts related to outages, overloading and voltage fluctuations. Information is passed to field personnel, who can use it to identify issues and respond.

SCADA, short for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, is the system with which the substations were reported to be integrated. The news reports describe the monitoring and alert functions but do not provide a technical specification of the system or explain the precise scope of integration at each substation.

How far has TGNPDCL’s wider rollout progressed?

The New Indian Express reported that 1,005 substations had been integrated across TGNPDCL and 419 remained. It also reported that the CMD expected the remaining substations to be completed within two months. These are figures and a forecast reported on 9 October 2026, not independently audited totals or confirmation that the forecast was met.

Reported rollout figure Scope Source and date
82 integrated All substations in Karimnagar Circle, as reported Deccan Chronicle and The New Indian Express, 9 October 2026
1,005 integrated TGNPDCL-wide The New Indian Express, 9 October 2026
419 remaining TGNPDCL-wide The New Indian Express, 9 October 2026

The 82-substation milestone appears in both news reports. The company-wide counts and two-month forecast appear in The New Indian Express report. The reports attribute the operational figures to the utility’s announcement; they do not cite an independent audit.

Does the milestone prove that electricity reliability has improved?

No. TGNPDCL’s stated aims for the system include improving supply reliability, reducing interruptions, identifying faults faster, speeding response and making feeder monitoring more efficient. The reports do not include before-and-after outage figures, restoration times, voltage-quality measurements, an independent evaluation or other performance data showing that these outcomes have already been achieved.

Real-time monitoring and alerts can support fault detection and response, but installation alone does not guarantee uninterrupted supply. To assess a reliability improvement, comparable outage frequency, outage duration or restoration-time data would be needed for periods before and after deployment.

What should customers take away?

  • Karimnagar Circle was reported as TGNPDCL’s first circle to complete RTFMS integration across all 82 of its substations.
  • The milestone applies to Karimnagar Circle, not the entire TGNPDCL network.
  • The system is described as monitoring feeder conditions and alerting personnel to outages, overloading and voltage fluctuations.
  • The reports describe intended operational benefits, but do not establish measured improvements in customer reliability.
