jQuery Mobile components are stateful widgets for common interface tasks such as page navigation, form input, expandable content, tables, and overlays. The Page widget is central to the framework’s page-based model. Version labels need care: the API site documents 1.5, while the download page identifies 1.4.5 as the latest stable version; those are separate statements, not proof that 1.5 is the latest stable release.
What counts as a jQuery Mobile component?
The jQuery Mobile API groups its components under Widgets. It describes widgets as feature-rich, stateful plugins with a lifecycle, methods, and events. In practice, they are more than visual styles: a widget can enhance markup and expose behavior that developers can interact with through its API.
The API reference lists these widgets: button, checkboxradio, collapsible, collapsibleset, controlgroup, dialog, filterable, fixedtoolbar, footer, header, listview, loader, navbar, page, pagecontainer, panel, popup, rangeslider, selectmenu, slider, table, column-toggle table, reflow table, tabs, textinput, and toolbar. Header, footer, and fixed-toolbar interfaces are presented within the toolbar widget family. Column-toggle and reflow are documented as responsive table variants.
The groups below are a practical way to find a component by the job it does; they are not official product categories.

How the Page widget shapes an application
The Page widget is the primary unit in jQuery Mobile’s page-based architecture. The API reference describes it as managing either one page widget in an HTML document or multiple locally linked page widgets within a single document. When a page widget is created, its content is auto-enhanced.
This is why a jQuery Mobile component reference includes both individual controls and page or navigation behavior: widgets sit inside a framework organized around pages, and page creation affects how content is enhanced. When maintaining an existing application, identify how its pages are represented before treating a widget as an isolated control.

What the 1.5 upgrade guide says changed
The 1.5 upgrade guide identifies API redesigns in six areas: Button, Checkboxradio, Controlgroup, Toolbar, Navbar, and Table. It also describes changes to widget classes and options. One example is the move from ui-btn* classes to ui-button* classes as Button APIs were aligned with jQuery UI.
The guide says 1.5 maintains compatibility with the 1.4 API by default through a compatibility layer. Setting $.mobileBackCompat = false disables that layer, allowing developers to exercise the 1.5 API. Because class names, options, and behavior can be version-specific, check the migration guidance for the version actually installed rather than copying a 1.5 example into a 1.4 project without verification.

Keep the API version separate from the stable-download claim
The jQuery Mobile API landing page labels its documentation as version 1.5 and says that 1.5 uses jQuery UI 1.12 and supports jQuery 2.2 and newer. The download page separately calls 1.4.5 the latest stable version and offers a ZIP containing JavaScript, CSS, and images. These pages describe different things: the API documentation version and the version the download page calls stable.
The upgrade guide also says 1.5 raises the minimum jQuery version to 1.9.x and removes support for IE8 and Android 2.3. That minimum is stated in the context of the upgrade guide; it should not be silently merged with the API landing page’s statement that 1.5 supports jQuery 2.2 and newer. Consult the documentation for the specific release and dependencies used by the application.

What the roadmap does—and does not—establish
The roadmap discusses plans for versions 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, and 2.0, and cautions that plans can change. A roadmap is planning material: by itself, it does not establish that each planned version shipped, that development is currently active, or that the project has a particular end-of-life policy. Likewise, the download page’s stable-version wording is a statement on that page, not a complete account of present-day maintenance or support.
