For Jira Cloud rule configuration and manual rule invocation, use Atlassian’s Automation REST API; Jira’s platform REST API v3 is for broader Jira resources. The Automation API supports rule discovery, retrieval, creation, updates, state and scope changes, deletion of disabled rules, and manual-rule search and invocation. Its documented summary endpoints support cursor-and-limit pagination, but the cited reference does not establish a universal numeric page maximum, request-rate quota, or plan-based execution allowance.
What the Jira Automation API is for
Atlassian describes its Automation REST API as the primary way to get and modify Automation data across products. Use it for Automation rule objects and manual-rule operations; use the Jira Cloud platform REST API v3 for broader Jira resources. The API scope and available operations are documented in Atlassian’s Rule management reference.
Build the Automation API base path
Atlassian documents two base paths for Automation API requests:
https://api.atlassian.com/automation/public/{product}/{cloudid}https://{sitename}/gateway/api/automation/public/{product}/{cloudid}
For Jira, use jira as {product}; {cloudid} is the site’s cloud tenant identifier. Atlassian says you can find the cloud ID at the site’s /_edge/tenant_info endpoint. The api.atlassian.com base accepts API tokens, while the site-specific gateway path can also use browser session cookies. Authentication and authorization details are in Atlassian’s Automation API paths and API introduction documentation. The caller also needs the relevant product permissions for the operation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Rule-management endpoints
Append these paths to either documented Automation base path. Paths containing {ruleUuid} take the rule’s UUID.
| Method and path | Use |
|---|---|
GET /rest/v1/rule/summary |
List rule summaries. |
POST /rest/v1/rule/summary |
Search summaries using supported fields such as trigger, state, scope, author, cursor, and limit. At least one of trigger, state, scope, or limit must be supplied. |
POST /rest/v1/rule |
Create a rule. If you supply a UUID, it must be unique and UUIDv7. |
GET /rest/v1/rule/{ruleUuid} |
Retrieve a rule’s configuration. |
PUT /rest/v1/rule/{ruleUuid} |
Update a rule. |
DELETE /rest/v1/rule/{ruleUuid} |
Delete a disabled rule. |
PUT /rest/v1/rule/{ruleUuid}/state |
Enable or disable a rule. |
PUT /rest/v1/rule/{ruleUuid}/rule-scope |
Change a rule’s scope. |
Check access restrictions for the precise operation and authentication model before building an app integration: Atlassian notes that Forge and OAuth2 apps cannot access several rule-management resources, including summary listing and search, creation, and retrieval. Also account for the reference’s deprecation notice on the links response field: it now returns query parameters rather than absolute links.

Manual-rule search and invocation
Manual rules use separate endpoints from the general rule lifecycle operations. The Manual rules reference documents these two calls:
| Method and path | Use |
|---|---|
POST /rest/v1/rule/manual/search |
Search for available manual rules. |
POST /rest/v1/rule/manual/{ruleId}/invocation |
Invoke a manual rule. The request can include target objects and typed user inputs. |
This flow is useful when an integration needs to find a manual rule and invoke it for specified Jira objects. It is not an endpoint for running scheduled or event-triggered rules.

Limits, pagination, and quotas
The summary endpoints expose cursor and limit parameters. Use the pagination information returned by the API to continue through results rather than assuming one response contains every rule. Atlassian says response sizing helps limit payload size and conserve server resources, but the cited material does not establish a universal numeric maximum page size.
Keep three different constraints separate when planning an integration:

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- Pagination: how many summaries a response returns and how to retrieve subsequent results.
- API throttling: request-rate limits that may apply to API traffic.
- Automation execution allowances: plan- or site-related limits on rule runs.
The cited Automation references do not establish a universal request-rate quota or a plan-based execution allowance. Check current official guidance for the relevant site and date before relying on a numeric limit; do not infer execution quotas from the summary endpoint’s limit parameter.
