The JBL Go 4 is a strong choice when a speaker needs to be easy to carry and able to handle dust or water—not when you need deep bass or room-filling volume. It weighs 0.19 kg, measures 9.4 × 7.8 × 4.2 cm, and carries an IP67 rating. JBL claims up to seven hours of playback, with up to two additional hours from Playtime Boost; that extra time comes with a sound-quality tradeoff.

How the Go 4 sounds
Good clarity for close listening, limited bass
The Go 4’s small enclosure sets a clear ceiling on low-end response and output. SoundGuys describes its stock sound as mid-heavy with limited bass; What Hi-Fi? praises the coherent presentation while noting the sonic limits imposed by its size. That makes it suitable for podcasts, spoken audio, and casual music at close range, but a poor substitute for a larger speaker when you want weighty bass or sound that fills a room.
SoundGuys tested the unit over six days using firmware 0.4.6.0 and JBL Portable app v6.2.21, and disclosed that JBL supplied the review unit. Those listening observations belong to that review, not to independent testing for this article. Read SoundGuys’ JBL Go 4 review for its test notes; What Hi-Fi?’s outdoor-speaker guide offers broader context.

Battery life and Playtime Boost
JBL rates the Go 4 for up to seven hours of music playback and claims Playtime Boost can add up to two hours. These are manufacturer claims, not guaranteed results: SoundGuys notes that actual runtime varies with use and EQ settings. Playtime Boost also bypasses EQ and removes low frequencies, so the extra claimed time is a tradeoff rather than a free extension of the same listening experience.
Is the JBL Go 4 waterproof?
JBL lists an IP67 rating and describes the speaker as waterproof and dustproof. This rating supports use in wet or dusty settings, but it does not make the speaker indestructible; take care around water and follow the manufacturer’s guidance. JBL’s product page says, “The JBL Go 4’s IP67 waterproof and dustproof rating ensures this portable speaker can handle almost any environment, from a poolside party to a seaside picnic.” That is JBL’s own product claim, not an independent durability test.

Pairing, connections, and missing features
Can you connect two JBL Go 4 speakers?
Yes. JBL promotes pairing two Go 4 units for stereo. It also supports Auracast connections to multiple compatible JBL speakers, but that is a different use: SoundGuys reports multi-speaker Auracast playback is mono and resets EQ. RTINGS cautions that the Go 4 does not work with the previous-generation Go 3 pairing setup, so check compatibility rather than assuming older speakers will join a new pair.
Does the Go 4 have an AUX input or microphone?
No AUX input is listed; SoundGuys says Bluetooth is its audio connection. SoundGuys also notes that the Go 4 has no microphone, so it is not a speakerphone for calls.

- 10-HOUR BATTERY: Keep the portable audio going for up to 8 hours, then squeeze out 2 more with Playtime Boost—so the soundtrack to your day runs from morning coffee to last call.
- EASY STEREO PAIRING: Bump two Go 5 bluetooth speakers together and AirTouch instantly links them into true left-right stereo. Or connect multiple JBL Auracast-enabled speakers wirelessly for an even wider, more immersive sound.

| Priority | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Smallest, easiest pocket carry | JBL Go 4 | RTINGS describes it as smaller and easier to pocket. |
| Attaching a speaker to a bag or strap | JBL Clip 5 | Its built-in clip is more useful for secure attachment than the Go 4’s integrated loop. |
| Somewhat fuller bass | JBL Clip 5 | RTINGS reports somewhat better bass extension. |
| Small speaker for personal listening and travel | JBL Go 4 | Its compact size and light weight favor portability. |
For substantially fuller sound, consider a larger portable speaker rather than expecting either tiny model to deliver room-filling bass. RTINGS also names the Sony SRS-XB100 as an option for someone prioritizing longer battery life over EQ, but a current, complete comparison is not established here. See RTINGS’ JBL Go 4 review for its comparison context.

Quick Recap
Who should buy the JBL Go 4?
- Choose it if you want a lightweight speaker that is easy to slip into a pocket or bag and offers IP67-rated water and dust protection.
- Look elsewhere if deep bass, high output, stereo from one speaker, or room-filling sound matters most.
- Consider the Clip 5 if clipping a speaker to a bag is more useful than maximum pocketability.
- Check the current local price, availability, and color choices before buying. JBL’s US product page displayed $34.95 when accessed on October 7, 2026; that is a dated price snapshot, not a guaranteed current price or a stable MSRP.
