Jacksonville’s last Hooters restaurant was permanently closed by October 2, 2026, according to News4JAX. The door displayed a sign reading, “Unfortunately we have closed permanently.” The exact date it stopped serving customers has not been confirmed.
Did the last Hooters in Jacksonville close?
Yes. News4JAX reported on October 2, 2026, that the city’s last Hooters was permanently closed. The restaurant’s door carried a permanent-closure notice. It was still listed on Hooters’ company website that day, but an online listing does not establish that the restaurant was open.
The closure ended a run dating to 1986, according to a USA TODAY Network caption carried by Reuters Connect. That supports “about 40 years,” but the caption gives no exact opening date, so a precise 40th anniversary cannot be established.
When did Jacksonville’s Hooters close?
The exact final operating date is unknown. News4JAX observed an orange public-health notice on the building dated September 29, 2026, and reported the permanent closure on October 2. The notice’s date does not, by itself, establish when the restaurant shut its doors.

| Date | What was reported |
|---|---|
| 1986 | The USA TODAY Network caption says the restaurant dated to this year; no exact opening date is provided. |
| September 24, 2026 | News4JAX said the restaurant’s Instagram account posted about a new menu item. |
| September 29, 2026 | Date printed on the orange public-health notice News4JAX saw on the building. The local report did not provide the notice’s text. |
| October 2, 2026 | News4JAX reported that the restaurant was permanently closed and still appeared on Hooters’ company website. |
The September 24 social post and company website listing are not proof the location was operating on those dates. They show only that the account posted and the listing remained available.
Why did the San Jose Boulevard Hooters close?
The cause has not been clearly established in the available reporting. News4JAX said the reason for the abrupt closure was unclear. Separately, a USA TODAY Network caption on Reuters Connect reported that the location closed permanently after a state health inspection cited dead roaches and rat droppings.

That inspection account should be treated as attributed reporting, not as a finding established by the orange notice News4JAX observed. The official inspection record tied to the September 29 notice, the full notice text, and the company’s explanation were not confirmed in the reports reviewed.
Where was Jacksonville’s last Hooters?
The sources describe the San Jose Boulevard location differently. The USA TODAY Network caption places it at 8938 San Jose Blvd. by Goodbys Creek in Mandarin. News4JAX describes it as the lone location on San Jose Boulevard at Baymeadows Road. The reports do not reconcile those descriptions, so confirm the address before relying on a particular intersection.

What is confirmed—and what remains unclear

- Reported by the USA TODAY Network caption: the restaurant dated to 1986 and was the last of three Hooters locations in Northeast Florida.
- Not established: the precise final operating date, the full contents and purpose of the September 29 notice, the official inspection findings tied to it, or a definitive reason for the closure.
