The announcement described a plan, not confirmation that the facility opened on schedule. iWeb said the project would expand colocation capacity, which had been constrained at its two existing data centers by their primary focus on dedicated server hosting.
What iWeb announced in 2007
Data Center Knowledge reported on October 2, 2007, that iWeb Group Inc. planned to add a third data center in its Montreal market. The company had leased a building previously used as a data center for up to 30 years, with an option to purchase it. The planned facility measured 22,700 square feet and was expected to accommodate 850 additional cabinets. Its announced opening schedule was December 2007; the report does not establish whether it opened then. Data Center Knowledge’s 2007 report
Why iWeb wanted more colocation capacity
iWeb’s two existing Montreal data centers were primarily dedicated-server facilities, limiting their cumulative capacity for colocation. CEO Eric Chouinard framed the project as both a growth and diversification move: “A fundamental component of our strategy is to grow the colocation segment of our business.” He also said the added facility would extend iWeb’s Montreal presence and help it reach a broader customer base. The 2010 LaSalle plan was a different project
In January 2010, iWeb announced another Montreal data center, this one in the borough of LaSalle. Its announced specifications should not be attributed to the 2007 facility:
