Atlanta-based iVivity Inc. raised $26 million in a Series C preferred-stock financing announced May 18, 2004. Grotech Capital Group and JK&B Capital led the round, which brought the storage-processor startup’s total funding to more than $50 million.
Who was iVivity?
iVivity Inc. was an Atlanta-based startup developing storage-processing technology. Its financing announcement described the company’s focus as an “intelligent storage processor,” rather than a named retail device or consumer accessory.
Who funded iVivity’s $26 million round?
Grotech Capital Group and JK&B Capital led the Series C preferred-stock financing. Mellon Ventures joined as a new investor. Earlier investors participating were H.I.G. Ventures, Commonwealth Capital Ventures, Kinetic Ventures, Cordova Ventures, Yamacraw, and Bergman & Associates. EE Times reported the round on May 18, 2004.
What was the money intended to support?
iVivity said the financing would help the company move from research and development toward delivering products and services to customers. The planned areas of investment included sales, marketing, product development, and customer service.

CEO and president David Coombs described the purpose as a shift toward commercial execution: “This financing marks a major milestone for iVivity as we transition our focus from research and development to delivering the products and services to our customers that will permit them to take full advantage of our revolutionary iDiSX technology.”
What did “storage server on a chip” mean?
Mellon Ventures vice president Max Chee used “storage server on a chip” to describe iVivity’s technology and said the firm saw a substantial market opportunity. The phrase signaled an effort to integrate storage-server capabilities into a processor-based solution. In the 2004 announcement, iDiSX was identified as iVivity’s technology, but the article did not specify its technical architecture, a processor model, or a particular product available to buy.

How much had iVivity raised in total?
The $26 million Series C financing brought iVivity’s cumulative funding to more than $50 million, according to EE Times’ May 18, 2004 report. The announcement documents a company financing and a move toward commercial delivery; it does not establish a retail product launch or consumer sales channel.
