Selected Nintendo-themed LEGO sets are listed as retiring during 2026, but that does not mean LEGO and Nintendo are ending their partnership or that every Nintendo set is going away. The bigger change is in the Super Mario play format: LEGO announced a refreshed minifigure range for 2027, following years of interactive-figure sets.
What “the end of an era” means
The phrase fits a shift in products, not a confirmed end to the LEGO–Nintendo relationship. LEGO’s August 2026 announcement describes a refreshed Super Mario range with minifigures planned for 2027. It does not say the partnership is ending or that all existing interactive sets are being discontinued. LEGO says the first interactive LEGO Super Mario building experiences launched in 2020; the newly announced range points to a different kind of character-based play.
Which Nintendo LEGO sets are retiring in 2026?
There is no reliable, universal retirement list in the available announcements. Catalog labels and availability differ by region and change over time, so dated reports should not be treated as a complete worldwide roster.

The indexed US LEGO Super Mario catalog labels multiple products “Retiring soon,” including some Mario Kart and interactive Mario products. LEGO UK’s 2026 Mario Kart coverage also labels selected products “Retiring soon.” These are market-specific catalog signals, not proof that the same sets have the same status everywhere. What dated reporting adds
On May 17, 2026, Nintendo Life reported that LEGO’s “last change to buy” retirement page included products from Super Mario, Mario Kart, and Animal Crossing. Examples included Adventures with Interactive LEGO Mario, Party at Toad’s House, Captain Toad’s Camp, Prince Florian & Castle Bowser, Piranha Plant, and Mario Kart – Standard Kart. In September 2026, Nintendo Life reported further 2026 retirements, highlighting Animal Crossing and Mario Kart. Those reports are useful snapshots, not confirmation of a complete list, a universal last-sale date, or current stock. Read the May 2026 report and the September 2026 report.
“Retiring soon” does not mean a set is already sold out, nor does it establish a final purchase date. To verify a particular set, search its name or set number in your region’s LEGO shop and check the current product page.

How the Super Mario format is changing
| Aspect | Earlier interactive sets | Announced 2027 range |
|---|---|---|
| Play format | Interactive LEGO Super Mario building experiences launched in 2020, according to LEGO. | LEGO announced minifigures and a refreshed theme centered on creative minifigure roleplay. |
| Timing and status | Existing products appear in current or retirement listings that can vary by region and change over time. | LEGO said the new sets were coming in 2027; it did not provide exact release dates in the announcement. |
| What the announcement establishes | It does not establish that every interactive set is being discontinued. | It establishes a planned new range, not the end of the LEGO–Nintendo partnership. |
LEGO’s announcement of the 2027 Super Mario minifigure range is the clearest indication of what comes next. It describes a new direction without stating that every earlier format will disappear.
A 2026 release shows the line is not simply disappearing
Nintendo announced that LEGO Mario Kart – Luigi & Mach 8 (set 72055) became available on April 1, 2026, at LEGO.com and LEGO Stores. Nintendo gave the set a piece count of 2,234 and described a posable Luigi figure, a buildable kart, a display stand, steering, and rolling features. Those are announcement details, not independent review findings. The release is a useful counterexample to the idea that every Nintendo-themed LEGO product is going away; it does not settle the current retirement status of other sets. See Nintendo’s product announcement.

How to check a set before you buy
- Open the LEGO shop for your country or region and search by the set name or set number.
- Read the product page’s current status. Treat “Retiring soon” as a catalog notice, not confirmation that the set is sold out or that all retailers have stopped selling it.
- If the product is no longer listed, check whether LEGO identifies it as unavailable and distinguish that from a dated third-party retirement report.
- Recheck close to purchase: listings and stock can change, and one country’s catalog does not establish availability in another.
The evidence supports a transition in selected products and, for Super Mario, a planned move toward minifigures in 2027. It does not establish that Nintendo LEGO as a whole—or the partnership itself—is ending.
