Blizzard’s official World of Warcraft: Forever is a Blizzard product, and the safest way to access it is through the Battle.net desktop app. That does not mean every site, server, client, or download using “WoW Forever” is official—or that any client is guaranteed risk-free. Legal questions about unofficial servers depend on the conduct and jurisdiction involved; a U.S. court order in the Turtle WoW case applies to named defendants and people covered by that order, not automatically to every player everywhere.
What “WoW: Forever” refers to
Blizzard has announced an official product called World of Warcraft: Forever. Its beta announcement describes a temporary beta window through October 21, 2026, and Blizzard’s product page announces a November 4, 2026 launch. Those are Blizzard’s announced dates, not guarantees that the schedule cannot change. Check Blizzard’s pages for current availability: beta announcement and product page.
The name can also be used by unrelated websites, private or emulated servers, modified clients, and downloads. Similar wording alone does not establish that Blizzard operates or approves a service. The legal and security questions for those third-party offerings are separate from the official Blizzard product.
Is the official WoW: Forever legal?
Blizzard presents WoW: Forever as its own product. Its product page says access requires an internet connection, a Battle.net account, and the Battle.net desktop app. Blizzard’s End User License Agreement sets contractual terms for using its platform and games. Those sources support using Blizzard’s official service under its terms; they are not a country-by-country legal opinion about every possible use.

Are private servers or modified clients legal?
A private or emulated server, modified client, or repack is not the same as Blizzard’s official product. The legal position can depend on the country, the activity, and the people involved, so the available court document should not be treated as a universal ruling on every player’s liability.
In the U.S. Turtle WoW litigation, a court-filed stipulated injunction bars named defendants and people covered by the order from specified conduct involving private or emulated Blizzard servers, modified clients, and related activity. The order expressly includes “any private or emulated servers (including but not limited to Turtle WoW), modded client software (including but not limited to the Turtle WoW client), or ‘remastered’ game clients (including but not limited to the Unreal Engine ‘remaster’ of the WoW client known as ‘Turtle WoW 2.0’) for any game owned or published by Blizzard or its affiliates, including World of Warcraft”. That language describes the scope of a case-specific order; it does not by itself establish the legal outcome for every user or jurisdiction. See the filed injunction.

Is the official client safe?
Use the Battle.net desktop app to obtain the official client, as Blizzard directs. Blizzard’s EULA says it does not warrant that its platform or game client is free of viruses or other harmful components. That is a contractual warranty disclaimer—not evidence that the official client contains malware, and not a promise that the software is risk-free.

How to verify a WoW: Forever beta invitation
- Do not use an unexpected email or message link to sign in. Blizzard warns about phishing invitations.
- Open Battle.net yourself and sign in to your account using your usual route.
- Check “Your Game Accounts” for an attached WoW: Forever beta license. Blizzard specifically recommends this check if you are unsure whether an invitation is legitimate.
- Download through the Battle.net desktop app. Do not treat a third-party download page, repack, or unsolicited attachment as the official client.
Blizzard’s beta notice says selected players receive an email invitation directing them to download through Battle.net and gives the account-license check as its anti-phishing advice.

The official sources establish Blizzard’s access route and the scope of one U.S. court order; they do not verify any particular unofficial service or download as safe. Before interacting with one, consider the following separately:

- Operator identity: Is there a clearly identified operator, and is there evidence of a relationship with Blizzard? A familiar name or logo is not proof of authorization.
- Client provenance: Where does the installer come from, and can its publisher and integrity be verified? Do not assume a modified client or repack is the official software.
- Applicable terms and jurisdiction: What rules apply to the service and your conduct where you live? A U.S. order directed at named defendants is not a substitute for jurisdiction-specific advice.
- Security practices: Is there publicly documented information about updates, account handling, and security? The sources cited here do not independently validate a third-party service’s practices.
