The Complete Edition Upgrade costs US$14.99 in the US and adds the Echoes of Sekigahara story expansion and Most Wanted survival mode for players who already own Ghost of Yōtei. It also bundles Digital Deluxe content and the Charm of Hokkyokusei. Whether that price is fair depends mostly on whether you want the new story and mode—not the features Sony is adding to everyone’s game for free.
What does the US$14.99 upgrade include?
Sony’s August 12, 2026 announcement, updated August 14, describes the Complete Edition Upgrade as downloadable PS5 content for existing owners. The US PlayStation Store lists the upgrade at US$14.99 and identifies these additions:

- Echoes of Sekigahara: a story expansion exploring Atsu’s past in a new area of Ezo, with a new weapon type.
- Most Wanted: a combat survival mode built around waves of enemies and boss encounters. Sony says players can unlock new weapons, cosmetics, and playable characters.
- Digital Deluxe content and Charm of Hokkyokusei: the Store listing names an in-game mask, Snake Armor, Digital Deluxe Armor Dye, Digital Deluxe Horse & Saddle, Sword Kit, Traveler’s Maps (Early Unlock), Charm of Amaterasu, and the Charm of Hokkyokusei.
These are the announced inclusions, not a measure of how much each item is worth to an individual buyer. The official announcement does not give a measured playtime for the expansion or a hands-on assessment of either new mode. Sony’s announcement and the US PlayStation Store listing provide the stated contents.

Sony announced patch 2.0 for October 1, 2026 globally, with availability on October 2 in some territories, including Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. The patch is separate from the paid upgrade: Sony said it would bring the following features to existing owners without requiring the Complete Edition Upgrade.
#1 Best Overall
- Stunning graphics and gameplay, explore the wild and striking lands around Mount Yotei on foot or horseback. Travel picturesque parts of northern Japan through grasslands, snowy ridges, fields of wildflowers, and more.
- Discover renegade combat, engage in lawless katana combat and battles with adversaires. Train with various sensei as you find and learn to use each new weapon.
- An unconventional story and journey, take in the cultural beauty of Japan, bathe in an onsen, visit shrines to pray, try Sumi-e painting, and so much more.
- Choose your weapon, battle Atsu's opponents as you see fit, with levelled-up dual katanas, odachi, kusarigama and other new weapons.
- Beauty of Yōtei mode
- New Watanabe Mode tracks
- A feature to keep one armor set’s appearance while using another set’s stats
- A new high-contrast accessibility option
Sony’s August 14 update corrected its earlier announcement to clarify that the Watanabe Mode tracks are part of the free patch. Do not count those tracks or the listed patch features as reasons to spend US$14.99. Sony announced the rollout dates; those dates alone do not verify that the patch reached every territory as planned.
Is the upgrade fair value for you?
There is no single objective value verdict in the official information: it confirms the contents and price, but not expansion length, independent review results, or a separate price for either paid component. Use your interest in the included content as the deciding factor.

- Discover a bold, new story of a warrior in Japan who is on her own mission of vengeance.
- Set 300 years after the critically acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei is a standalone experience set in 1600s rural Japan. The story follows a haunted, lone mercenary named Atsu. Thirsty for revenge, she travels through the beautiful, rugged landscapes of northern Japan, hunting those who killed her family many years earlier.
- Sixteen years after her family’s death, Atsu’s quest across Ezo brings her to unexplored lands in search of a gang of six outlaws, but she finds much more than vengeance. Throughout her journey, Atsu will discover unlikely allies, and greater bonds than she could have imagined.
| Buyer situation | How to judge the upgrade |
|---|---|
| You want the new story and Most Wanted | US$14.99 buys both paid additions, along with the listed edition extras. The sources do not establish a separate purchase price for either addition. |
| You want only one of the two new additions | Compare the bundle price with your interest in the other addition and the digital extras. The cited sources do not show that the story expansion or survival mode can be bought separately. |
| You mainly want the October patch features | Those announced features are free for existing owners, so they are not a reason to buy this upgrade. |
| You already bought Digital Deluxe through PlayStation Store | Sony announced a 20% discount on the upgrade’s preorder price for those qualifying buyers. That was a preorder offer, not a promise of a current discount or eligibility for purchases through other channels. |
| You care mostly about cosmetics or an early unlock | Judge those items by your own preferences; the official listings establish that they are included, not that they offer the same value as a story expansion or mode. |
The Sakai Armor early-unlock promotion applied to purchases by September 30, 2026. That deadline has passed as of October 4, 2026, so it should not be treated as an available offer.
Where can you buy it, and what about online play?
The upgrade is downloadable PS5 content sold through PlayStation Store. A physical copy of the base game, accessories, guides, or collectibles do not provide this digital upgrade. Check the Store for your territory for current availability and price, since the cited price and offer terms are specific to the US listing and may change.

- Beyond war, ancient beauty endures: Roam vast countryside and expansive terrain to encounter rich characters, discover ancient landmarks and uncover the hidden beauty of Tsushima.
- The rise of the Ghost: Seek support from old friends and new unlikely allies to reclaim Tsushima.
- Mud, Blood and steel: challenge opponents with your katana for an immersive Samurai combat experience.
- Become legends together: play with friends or via online matchmaking in a series of two-player story missions or four-player wave-based survival missions in the legends online co-op
- A whole new island to explore: Travel to Iki Island to investigate rumors of a Mongol presence in a brand-new story with deeply personal stakes.
The US Store listing says, “PS Plus required for online play.” That statement is scoped to online play; it does not establish that a subscription is required for all single-player upgrade content. If you plan to play online, check the listing and your account’s current subscription status. The PlayStation Support page describes physical items in the separate Collector’s Edition; those items are not needed to buy or use this upgrade.
