Yes. TextExpander’s Free plan costs $0 and does not require a credit card. The vendor says Snippets sync across supported devices on every plan, including Free, so one account can cover a Mac, a Windows PC, the Chrome browser, an iPhone and an iPad. The real constraint is not device count but volume: Free lets you save an unlimited number of Snippets, yet only five can be active at the same time.
The iPhone and iPad app is the newest part of this picture. TextExpander announced it in the App Store on September 17, 2026, so the mobile setup steps below are recent and may change as the app is updated.
What the Free plan includes
The Free plan is an ongoing tier, not a trial. According to the vendor’s pricing page and Free plan help page, it includes:

Which devices are supported and what they require
The vendor’s press kit lists minimum operating system and browser versions. The download page confirms the Mac, Windows and Chrome requirements. Because these can change with app updates, check the live download page before you install.

Setting up the TextExpander keyboard on iPhone and iPad
On iOS, Snippets do not expand in other apps just because the TextExpander app is installed. You must add its keyboard and allow full access. Follow these steps:
- Install TextExpander from the App Store and sign in with the same account you use on your other devices.
- Open Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add New Keyboard.
- Choose TextExpander from the list of third-party keyboards.
- Tap TextExpander in the Keyboards list and turn on Allow Full Access.
- In any app where you want to type, switch to the TextExpander keyboard with the globe key, then type a Snippet abbreviation.
Expected result: the abbreviation is replaced by its Snippet text in that app. If nothing expands, first confirm that Allow Full Access is on and that TextExpander is the active keyboard, since the vendor says full access is required for Snippets to expand.

Where the Free plan stops
The Free plan covers basic text replacement. The vendor lists the following as paid features:

- Date and time math, and nested Snippets.
- JavaScript, AppleScript and shell scripts, and conditional fill-ins.
- External sharing, private Snippets and advanced permissions.
- History, analytics and reporting.
- Enterprise security and admin controls.
The five-active cap is the limit you will feel first. Free allows you to change which five are live by swapping one Snippet every two weeks, so it works best when your frequently typed phrases are few and stable.

Paid plans are priced per user. Prices are in USD, and VAT or GST may be added depending on your country; the final total appears at checkout.

The vendor says annual billing gives two months free. The pricing page uses two monthly labels: its comparison header shows $6 and $12 per month, while its FAQ states $5 and $10 per user per month for annual billing. These are consistent with the annual totals above ($60 divided by 12 is $5; $120 divided by 12 is $10), but always confirm the billing cadence and total at checkout before comparing costs.

No independent benchmark or controlled study of typical time savings was identified in the vendor material. Treat these numbers as the vendor’s claims about its own user base.

The vendor describes its plans in terms of features rather than a single recommended tier, so the choice comes down to how many Snippets you use at once and who else needs them:
