Yes—if you want a long, dark Arthurian open-world RPG built around exploration, quests, combat, and character customization. The base game is the sensible place to start: Supporter extras are optional, while Sanctuary of Sarras is the main paid expansion. Try the demo where available if you are unsure about the game’s tone or how it runs on your PC.
What kind of game is Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon?

This is a substantial commitment rather than a short, linear adventure. The developer estimates 50–70 hours of content across the base game’s three zones; your actual time will depend on how much you explore and which activities you pursue. Steam’s mature-content notice mentions blood, moderate brutality, and dark story tropes.

Is it worth buying for you?
It is a better fit if you want
- A bleak Arthurian setting and a story shaped by choices.
- Exploration, side quests, and a lengthy RPG structure.
- Room to approach combat with melee weapons, bows, magic, throwables, alchemy, and different character builds.
Think twice if you want
- A short, tightly directed story rather than a large RPG.
- A lighter tone: the game’s setting and mature-content description point to dark themes and violence.
- A performance guarantee based on store ratings. User reviews reflect player sentiment, not controlled hardware testing.
At the time of the 2026 store snapshots, Steam showed 87% positive from 19,894 English-language lifetime reviews and 85% positive from 432 reviews in the preceding 30 days. The US PlayStation Store showed 4.29 out of 5 from 9,854 ratings. These are separate platform-specific user-rating snapshots—not critic scores—and both the numbers and proportions can change. They do not establish how the game performs on your hardware or whether its style will suit you. Steam store page · US PlayStation Store

Which edition should you buy?
Start with the base game if you are new to Tainted Grail or want to decide about the expansion later. The add-ons mainly serve different interests: the Supporter materials are extras, while the Adventure Pack and Excalibur Edition add the expansion. Store packages do not always group entitlements identically, so check the exact contents on your platform before paying—especially if you already own the base game or any DLC.
| Option | What it includes, according to the listings | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| Standard/base game | The core game. | First-time buyers, players who want to try the demo first, or anyone unsure about the game or their system’s performance. |
| Supporter Edition / Supporters Pack | The official store lists a soundtrack, digital artbook, and Golden Horse Armor. | Adventure Pack | Base game plus Sanctuary of Sarras. | New buyers already committed to playing the expansion. |
| Excalibur Edition | The official store lists the base game, Sanctuary of Sarras, soundtrack, digital artbook, Golden Horse Armor, Bonus Content #1–#3, and Merlin’s Tomb. Steam’s bundle listing includes the base game, Supporters Pack, and Sanctuary of Sarras; bundle entitlements can differ by store. | Buyers who want the expansion and extras together, after checking platform-specific contents and avoiding duplicate purchases. |
Package names and current prices vary across stores and regions. The US PlayStation Store’s page showed a Standard Edition original price of $44.99 when accessed, alongside a discount whose displayed offer dates had already passed; that is not a current sale quote. Steam’s accessed listing showed a promotion in Polish złoty. Check the live listing for your region and platform rather than comparing prices taken from different storefronts or dates. Is Sanctuary of Sarras worth the extra cost?
Consider it if you want more story and RPG content after the base game. The official store calls Sanctuary of Sarras the first full-fledged expansion and estimates 10–15 hours of new adventures. Its listed additions include a storyline involving Nimue and Arthur’s deserters, a distinct sea-shaped setting, more than 20 dungeons and interiors, new characters and bosses, over 100 equipment pieces, and three skill trees. Those playtime and content figures are publisher descriptions, not independently measured results. Official store
