Space Marine 2 is a conditional buy for PvE and co-op: its official modes include a campaign playable solo or with up to two friends, plus replayable three-player PvE Operations. It is a better fit if you have a regular group of up to three and want both a campaign and missions to revisit. Think twice if you mainly play offline: Operations requires an internet connection for PvE progress to save.

What co-op and PvE modes does Space Marine 2 offer?

Campaign: solo or three-player co-op

Focus Entertainment describes the campaign as playable solo or with up to two friends, making three players the maximum for this format. Saber Interactive’s support FAQ also confirms campaign co-op for up to three players. The campaign follows Lieutenant Titus and his squad; the official Xbox Wire announcement describes the later-added Techmarine as a class for PvE and PvP, not the Titus-centered narrative campaign. Focus Entertainment’s May community update and Saber’s support FAQ establish the formats, rather than how enjoyable the story or co-op feels.

Operations: repeatable PvE missions

Operations is a separate co-op PvE mode with replayable missions and support for up to three players. Focus’s mode update describes selectable classes for team PvE. The official descriptions establish that Operations exists as a replay loop beyond the campaign; they do not establish its mission variety, length, or how much time you will want to spend repeating missions. Saber’s support FAQ confirms the replayable PvE structure.

Who is most likely to find it worth buying?

  • You have one or two friends to play with. Both the campaign and the cited PvE co-op format support a group of up to three. If your regular group is larger, someone will need to sit out or play separately.
  • You want both a campaign and a repeatable PvE mode. The two formats serve different purposes: a narrative campaign and replayable Operations missions. Official feature descriptions alone cannot tell you whether either mode’s pacing or combat will suit your taste.
  • You are comfortable playing Operations online. Saber says an online connection is needed to ensure Operations PvE progress is saved.
  • You value continued PvE additions. Official updates document further content, but a roadmap is not a guarantee of future releases or a specific update cadence.

What could make it a poor fit?

You expect every mode to work offline

Operations requires online access for PvE progress to save. The support statement is specific to that mode; it should not be stretched into a claim that every part of the game has the same requirement. Saber’s FAQ on Operations gives the relevant caveat.

Your group is larger than three or depends on cross-platform play

The campaign and Operations formats described by the cited sources cap a session at three players. Focus’s August 2024 crossplay update said campaign and PvE could be played without restriction, while PvP crossplay pools were separated between PC and consoles for fairness. That is a pre-release-era description, so check current rules for your exact platform combination before buying for a mixed-platform group. Focus’s crossplay update is the dated basis for that distinction.

You are buying on the assumption of a particular price or future content schedule

Price, edition contents, subscription catalog access, and availability can change by platform and region. Compare the live listing for your platform with any subscription access available to you rather than relying on an old price or catalog announcement. Likewise, past content additions are evidence of support to date, not a promise of a particular future release schedule.

Has PvE received updates since launch?

Yes. The official Year Two roadmap, published August 28, 2025, described another year of support that included new weapons, missions, a new PvE mission, and PvE Stratagems. A 2026 Warhammer Community article about Patch 14 reported a new enemy and cosmetic sets for Operations in the Confrontation Update. These dated updates show continued support through the cited 2026 update; they do not establish a guaranteed cadence after it. See the Year Two roadmap and the Warhammer Community Patch 14 article.

Check platform, price, and access before you buy

Space Marine 2 launched on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on September 9, 2024. Xbox Wire announced Game Pass availability beginning January 29, 2026; that announcement does not guarantee the game remains in a subscription catalog now or that access is identical in every region. Check your platform’s current store listing and subscription catalog, and confirm that the listed edition matches what you intend to buy. Focus’s game page lists the platforms; Xbox Wire’s January 21, 2026 announcement gives the dated Game Pass information.

How to make the decision

  1. Start with your group. If you have up to two regular co-op partners, the documented campaign and Operations formats accommodate your group size.
  2. Decide which mode matters more. Choose it for a campaign plus repeatable PvE potential, not on an assumption that official mode descriptions prove quality, variety, or replay value.
  3. Check online expectations. If saving Operations progress while offline is essential, this mode’s stated online requirement is a meaningful drawback.
  4. Verify the current offer. Match the platform and edition to your device, compare the current purchase price with subscription access in your region, and confirm crossplay for your group’s platforms.
