Restream can schedule a finite prerecorded broadcast for up to 40 hours, so a 24-hour event can fit within its documented limits. That does not make it a verified, guaranteed always-on service. Restream’s video loops are capped at 10 repetitions, playlists do not loop automatically, and YouTube archives only streams under 12 hours. For continuous channel coverage, those limits matter as much as whether one scheduled event starts successfully.

What Restream can—and cannot—do for a 24-hour broadcast

Restream’s prerecorded-event feature can start a broadcast at its scheduled time while you are offline. Its loop feature supports up to 10 repetitions and a maximum looped-stream duration of 40 hours. Restream specifically describes streaming for 24 hours as a use case for online radio stations and DJs. A finite 24-hour event is therefore within the stated ceiling if the video and repetition count fit. Restream’s scheduling guide and looping guide describe these capabilities.

That is evidence for a finite event, not for an unattended channel that restarts forever. The documented loop ends when its duration or repetition limit is reached. Restream says playlists can contain up to 40 entries, and entries can be repeated to extend a sequence, but playlists themselves do not loop. The available documentation does not establish an automatic handoff that keeps the channel live indefinitely after an event finishes.

Event support is not an end-to-end uptime promise

A successful schedule depends on more than Restream’s event feature: the selected plan and storage limits, the uploaded file, the connected YouTube channel, and the delivery path all have to work. Restream’s Terms of Service allow for scheduled maintenance and unscheduled interruptions and disclaim a warranty that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. That legal disclaimer is not evidence that an outage occurred, but it does mean you should not treat a 24-hour feature limit as a reliability guarantee.

Restream’s public status page displayed 99.98% uptime for Studio when checked in 2026. This is a point-in-time status-page figure for Studio, not an independent historical uptime study or an end-to-end measurement of scheduled prerecorded broadcasts reaching YouTube.

Does this work for a continuous music channel?

It can work for a scheduled, finite music broadcast if you are comfortable with the event ending and can manage what happens next. It is a weaker fit when the requirement is uninterrupted coverage day after day, because the documented loop is finite and playlists do not automatically repeat. Decide based on four practical questions:

  • Maximum event length: Will the file and repetitions fit within Restream’s stated 40-hour loop ceiling and 10-loop limit?
  • What happens at the end: Is a gap acceptable while you schedule or start another event, or must the channel stay live automatically?
  • Replay needs: Do you need one complete YouTube archive of the broadcast?
  • Operational responsibility: Can someone check the event, channel status, and recovery if a problem occurs?

Plan for YouTube’s archive limit

Restream’s YouTube guide says YouTube does not impose a stream-duration limit, but YouTube archives only streams under 12 hours. A 24-hour broadcast may therefore run without producing one complete YouTube archive. If retaining the entire music program matters, keep the original recording and plan a separate way to preserve it; do not rely on the live replay as the only copy. Restream’s YouTube streaming guide explains the archive limitation.

Prepare the recording and YouTube channel

Check the file and encoding

For prerecorded uploads, Restream lists MP4, MOV, M4V, and MKV containers; H.264 video; AAC audio; and keyframe interval 2 as requirements. It recommends 1080p and suggests adding 15–20 seconds at both the beginning and end so destination platforms have time to process the incoming stream. Check the file against the current prerecorded video requirements before uploading; a file that does not meet them can prevent a clean broadcast.

Verify channel access and live-stream eligibility

Restream’s YouTube setup guidance says the connected channel must be owned by the account holder and live streaming must be enabled. For a first stream, its guide says YouTube requires phone verification and a 24-hour wait after enabling live streaming. Check the channel’s current status and permissions before relying on a scheduled event, since eligibility and account controls can affect whether YouTube accepts the broadcast.

Confirm plan, storage, and backup

Restream’s scheduled-event article describes Premier, Marathon, and Media storage tiers, while looping is available on Marathon and Media add-on plans. Storage and file-duration limits vary by plan, and plan details can change; confirm the current entitlement and your file’s fit in the account before scheduling. Restream says its cloud storage is not a substitute for a hard drive or other backup, so retain an original copy of every music and video asset. See Restream’s storage explanation and verify the terms shown for your plan.

Run a test before depending on the schedule

  1. Confirm the event design: Calculate the total duration and repetition count, and verify they remain within the stated 40-hour maximum and 10-loop cap. If you are using a playlist, account for the fact that it will not loop automatically.
  2. Check eligibility and entitlement: Confirm the YouTube channel is owned by the connecting account, live streaming is enabled, and your Restream plan supports the chosen upload, storage, and looping workflow.
  3. Upload and validate the actual recording: Use a supported container and encoding, then confirm the uploaded video’s playback and intended start and end points.
  4. Schedule a short test to the intended YouTube channel: Check that it begins at the expected time, plays the right audio and video, and appears correctly on YouTube. A test is practical risk reduction, not proof of future uptime.
  5. Decide how the event ends: If you need another broadcast, arrange the next event and decide who will check for a gap. Do not assume the current event will restart itself indefinitely.
  6. Protect the source: Keep an independent copy of the recording and decide how you will retain a complete replay if the broadcast exceeds YouTube’s archive limit.

Music rights and YouTube policy still apply

Using a prerecorded file or a streaming service does not grant permission to broadcast the music. Before scheduling, make sure you have the necessary rights or licences for the recordings and any associated video in the territories where viewers may access them. Copyright claims or other YouTube enforcement can affect a live broadcast and its replay; a technically successful Restream event does not establish that the content is authorized or eligible to remain available.

Also assess whether the channel’s programming adds original value rather than simply repeating material. YouTube monetization eligibility and reused-content review are separate from whether a stream can be scheduled. Review current YouTube rules for your channel and content before building a business around a recurring music broadcast.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is an ongoing prerecorded YouTube stream rather than a finite Restream event, StreamNeo is the first option to consider: it is built to keep an uploaded video or playlist live from the cloud, with any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot and a free first day.

  1. Upload a recording or build a playlist.
  2. Add your YouTube stream key once.
  3. Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded content from the cloud.

Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the Monthly price is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.

Restream versus a cloud service for ongoing playback

The practical distinction is whether you need a finite scheduled event or an always-on playback workflow. Restream documents finite looping and scheduled starts; StreamNeo is designed for continuing YouTube playback of uploaded videos or playlists from the cloud. Neither statement removes the need to confirm your content rights or YouTube account status.

Need Restream prerecorded event StreamNeo
Start a finite scheduled broadcast while offline Documented; event starts at the scheduled time. Upload content, add the YouTube stream key, and go live.
Keep prerecorded content running continuously Looping has a 40-hour maximum and up to 10 repetitions; playlists do not loop. Loops uploaded videos or playlists from the cloud for an always-on YouTube stream.
Computer must stay on Not required for the scheduled event start; available evidence does not establish an indefinitely recurring handoff. No computer or home connection has to stay on.
Recovery after YouTube drops the stream Not established by the cited event documentation. Automatic recovery is included.
Quality and pricing structure Plan details and limits vary; confirm current terms with Restream. One flat price per slot for uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps; the same product is included on every plan, with billing duration changing.

Troubleshoot the most likely failure points

  • The event does not start on YouTube: Check the scheduled event and connected channel, confirm live streaming is enabled and the account has the necessary ownership and permissions, then verify the selected Restream plan supports the event setup.
  • The upload is rejected or playback is wrong: Confirm the container, H.264 video, AAC audio, and keyframe interval 2 meet Restream’s requirements. Recheck the file itself and upload a corrected export if needed.
  • The broadcast ends before the expected continuous run: Recalculate duration and repetitions against the 40-hour loop ceiling and 10-loop cap. A playlist will not restart automatically; repeated entries only extend its finite sequence.
  • The event runs but the archive is incomplete: YouTube’s archive limit is under 12 hours. Preserve the original recording and use a separate archive plan for a longer broadcast.
  • There is an interruption: Check Restream’s status page for current service information, and check YouTube Studio for the destination stream’s status. A green service status cannot establish that the full Restream-to-YouTube path is healthy.
  • Content is claimed or removed: Review the rights for every music and video element and address any YouTube notice through the platform’s available process. Switching streaming tools does not resolve a rights issue.
