Yes—with qualifications. Raspberry Pi can be a capable thin-client endpoint when its job is to connect to a compatible virtual desktop, cloud desktop, or browser-based service. But a Raspberry Pi board is not a complete enterprise thin-client system: organizations also need a supported client and operating system, management and security processes, and verified compatibility with their users’ applications and peripherals.
What “thin client” means for a Raspberry Pi
A thin client connects to a remote system that runs the applications and stores the data. The endpoint handles the local display, input, and connection; the remote desktop or server does most of the computing work. Raspberry Pi describes this model as connecting its computers to a central server for applications and data (Raspberry Pi’s thin-client overview).
That makes a Pi a potential endpoint, not a replacement for the remote desktop service itself. The complete solution includes the Pi hardware, a compatible client and OS image, endpoint administration, and the organization’s VDI or cloud desktop service. Raspberry Pi’s enterprise materials describe specialist partners as providing services such as device management, security, and virtualization (Raspberry Pi’s enterprise overview).
What Raspberry Pi hardware can—and cannot—tell you
Raspberry Pi 5 has a Broadcom BCM2712 2.4 GHz quad-core 64-bit Arm Cortex-A76 processor, dual 4Kp60 HDMI output, Wi-Fi, and memory configurations up to 16 GB, according to its product specifications. These features make it a plausible modern endpoint platform, including for multi-display setups where the selected client and service support them.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Specifications alone do not show how a particular VDI client will perform with a specific desktop, video call, graphics workload, or peripheral. Raspberry Pi’s published desktop guidance also describes its computers as able to connect to services such as Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, but that is company guidance, not an independent performance comparison (Raspberry Pi desktop guidance).
Compatibility depends on the exact client and setup
Support is specific to the Raspberry Pi model, OS build, client version, remote desktop service, and features an organization needs. Citrix documentation lists Raspberry Pi OS among supported Linux distributions for certain Workspace app releases; its requirements vary by release and feature. Check the Citrix Workspace app for Linux system requirements and release documentation for the precise combination being considered. That documentation is not a blanket assurance that every Pi, OS version, Citrix feature, or competing VDI client will work.

Before choosing an image or device, verify the functions users rely on, including:
- Sign-in and identity requirements, including smart cards or other authentication devices.
- Printers, USB devices, headsets, webcams, and any specialized peripherals.
- Monitor count, resolution, and the remote client’s display support.
- Audio, camera redirection, video conferencing, and platform-specific media optimization.
- Required applications and VDI features on the exact client and OS versions.
Enterprise deployment options and evidence
Raspberry Pi’s thin-client offering is built around partner-provided solutions rather than just the board. The company’s current page describes partners offering device management, enterprise security, and virtualization services. Its 2022 enterprise article named Citrix, Azure Virtual Desktop, Microsoft Remote Desktop Services, and VMware Horizon among environments supported through specialist partners at that time (Raspberry Pi’s 2022 enterprise article). Treat that platform list as historical context, not confirmation of current support; verify availability and compatibility with the relevant provider.

A 2025 Raspberry Pi case study describes a Stratodesk-managed, image-based deployment used with Windows 365, Citrix, VMware, and browser-based SaaS. It offers an example of how a managed image can make deployment possible, but it is a vendor/customer account, not an independently controlled evaluation of cost, reliability, energy use, or user experience (Raspberry Pi’s Stratodesk case study).

Raspberry Pi’s thin-client page features a claim of £100,000 in public funds saved by Merton Council. That is a Raspberry Pi-published case-study headline; the page does not establish that the sum came from thin-client use alone, explain its calculation, or show that another organization would achieve similar savings. No independent comparative figures for thin-client performance, total cost, energy use, or productivity are established here.

For a Raspberry Pi 5 setup, Raspberry Pi’s documentation calls for boot media, typically microSD, and a model-appropriate power supply. It recommends a 5 V, 5 A supply for Raspberry Pi 5 (Raspberry Pi setup documentation). A managed enterprise image may impose different requirements, so follow the solution provider’s instructions.
