Not automatically. YouTube does not say every gameplay loop on a livestream is reused content. The risk depends on where the footage came from, what original value you add, whether the channel repeatedly publishes substantially similar material, the game publisher’s commercial-use terms, and the channel’s overall content. No particular loop format or amount of commentary guarantees monetization.
What YouTube means by reused content
YouTube describes reused content as material taken from YouTube or another online source and repurposed without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. Reviewers may consider both the videos and channel information to understand how the creator made or participated in the content. YouTube channel monetization policies
This is a monetization-policy question, not simply a question of whether a stream is live. Putting existing footage on a livestream does not, by itself, make it original; equally, looping footage is not automatically disqualified under a specific published rule.

How the main scenarios differ
| Scenario | What the guidance suggests |
|---|---|
| Your own gameplay, streamed as a bare loop | Ownership alone does not settle monetization. YouTube says videos that simply show gameplay for extended periods may not be accepted, and publisher rights can also matter. |
| Gameplay taken from another creator or source, with little added value | This is closer to the reused-content concern: the footage is repurposed without substantial commentary, modification, or educational or entertainment value. |
| Gameplay with explanation, teaching, a distinct narrative, or meaningful live interaction | These elements may help demonstrate original value, but YouTube does not promise that any one feature or amount of commentary will secure monetization. |
| A substantially identical loop repeated across streams or videos | YouTube’s separate inauthentic-content guidance may also be relevant if the channel’s output is repetitive or mass-produced. Applying that general guidance to a particular gameplay loop is an inference, not an express ruling. |
YouTube’s gameplay guidance says that monetization may depend on commercial-use rights granted by the game publisher. It also warns that “Videos simply showing a user playing a video game or the use of software for extended periods of time may not be accepted for monetization.” Commentary tied to live action that provides instructional or educational value is identified as a possible basis for monetization, not a guarantee. Reused content and inauthentic content are related, but different
On July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed its “repetitious content” policy to “inauthentic content” to clarify that it covers repetitive or mass-produced content. YouTube said this clarification did not change its reused-content policy. A stream could raise questions under either policy depending on its source and the pattern of material across the channel. YouTube channel monetization policies
In an April 25, 2024 TeamYouTube FAQ, a Google employee gave compilations or clips edited together with little or no narrative—including gameplay—as examples that could violate the reused-content policy. That example is a warning about low-narrative repackaging; it is not a rule that every gameplay stream or loop violates the policy. FAQ: Reused Content & YouTube’s Partner Program

What reviewers may consider across your channel
Reused-content eligibility is assessed at the channel level, not only one livestream. YouTube says reviewers may look at the channel’s main theme, most-viewed and newest videos, the content accounting for the biggest share of watch time, metadata, and About section. A single original stream therefore does not necessarily resolve concerns about a broader pattern, and one loop should be considered in the context of the channel’s other uploads. - Confirm the source. Be clear whether the gameplay is yours or comes from another creator or source. Credit or permission does not by itself guarantee YouTube Partner Program eligibility; reused-content review is separate from copyright enforcement.
- Check publisher terms. Verify that the game publisher permits the intended commercial use. This is a separate gameplay-monetization consideration from YouTube’s reused-content policy.
- Make your contribution apparent. Consider commentary, instruction, analysis, a distinct narrative, or meaningful interaction that gives viewers a reason to watch beyond the footage itself. There is no published formula or minimum commentary threshold.
- Assess the whole channel. Look at whether the loop is an isolated format or part of a broader pattern of substantially repeated or mass-produced content, as well as which videos drive watch time.
- Do not rely on runtime as a safe harbor. YouTube’s cited guidance does not establish a specific number of seconds, loop length, or percentage that makes gameplay acceptable or disqualifying.
Keep a gameplay livestream running without leaving your PC on
If your goal is to keep a prerecorded gameplay video or playlist live on YouTube, one option is to run the stream yourself from a computer; another is a cloud service. StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for looping uploaded videos: upload a recording or make a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It keeps the stream running with your computer off. That streaming setup does not change YouTube’s monetization review or make footage eligible by itself.
