Short answer: the evidence I could find does not confirm that Google is testing a larger three-dot menu icon on ads. Google’s published material describes what the menu next to an ad does and where it leads, but it does not mention a bigger icon, an icon-size experiment, or a rollout of one. Until a dated screenshot or a direct report surfaces, treat the larger-icon claim as unverified.
The menu itself is still worth understanding, because Google has expanded what it opens. This article explains what the verified sources say, what they leave out, and how to check an interface change yourself.
What Google has documented about the three-dot menu
The three-dot icon beside an ad is the entry point to Google’s ad information and control tools. In its March 29, 2023 announcement, Google said its Ads Transparency Center would begin rolling out globally. Users can reach the center directly or through My Ad Center from the three-dot menu beside an ad. Google said the center shows which ads appeared in a region, the last date an ad ran, and the ad format, so people can learn about ads and advertisers.

It has not been independently measured, and it should not be read as a current count.

The new “How this ad was made” panel
On July 9, 2026, Google announced a “How this ad was made” section in My Ad Center. It identifies whether an ad was created or edited with AI. Google said the panel can be opened from the three-dot menu or the info icon on ads across Search, YouTube, and Discover. Search Engine Land’s coverage of the same announcement, dated July 9, 2026, describes the menu or info icon in the same way.
How disclosures are applied depends on where the ad was made:

- Ads made with Google’s generative AI ad tools: the AI disclosure is added automatically.
- Ads made elsewhere: Google introduced a control that lets advertisers indicate AI use themselves.
Both sources document the menu’s function as an access route to this panel. Neither describes a change to the icon’s size or appearance.
Why the icon-size claim is not supported
A claim about an interface test needs evidence that the test exists: a dated screenshot, a direct report from a user or observer, the platform and device involved, the regions covered, and whether the change is limited or general. The sources reviewed for this article supply none of these for a larger three-dot icon. Google’s official pages describe the menu’s contents, not its dimensions, and nothing reviewed ties a size change to an experiment.
Google also does not publicly list every interface test it runs, so the absence of an announcement is not proof that a test does not exist. It does mean that the claim cannot be stated as fact.

- Open the Google app, or a browser on a search results page, and run a query that returns ads.
- Take a screenshot of the ad with the icon visible, and note the date and time.
- Record the device model, operating system, app or browser version, and the surface (Search, YouTube, or Discover).
- Open the menu and check whether its options match the ones Google describes: My Ad Center, the Ads Transparency Center, and, for newer ads, “How this ad was made.”
- Ask someone on a different device or in another region to run the same query. A change that appears on only one account or device usually reflects that setup rather than a general test.
A single screenshot shows that something looked different on one device at one time. It does not show that a test is running, how long it has run, or whether it will stay.

- Whether Google is testing any change in the size of the three-dot icon on ads.
- Which markets, devices, or ad surfaces would be included if such a test exists.
- The rollout status of the “How this ad was made” panel in each region. Google’s July 9, 2026 announcement describes the feature, but the sources reviewed here do not state a per-country schedule.
