The developer says screenshots are stored locally and that the extension does not collect or use user data; those are developer disclosures, not independent verification. Its optional permissions for pages containing iframes can also be broad. If a page contains highly sensitive information, weigh the permission prompt and the risk of creating and sharing an image before capturing it.
What GoFullPage says it does with screenshots and page data
GoFullPage captures a full page by scrolling through visible sections and assembling them into an image. That capture process does not, by itself, establish how every kind of page content is handled under every configuration.
In its permissions guide, published September 2, 2025, the developer says screenshots are stored locally in the extension. It says the extension runs on the current tab after the user activates it and does not execute during ordinary browsing without a click. The guide describes the temporary page access used for scrolling and rendering as: “This requires a temporary, limited ability to read and modify data on the page strictly for scrolling and rendering the screenshot.” These are the developer’s descriptions, not findings from an independent audit. The Chrome Web Store listing carries the developer’s disclosure that it does not collect or use user data. The listing also describes limits on sale or unrelated use and transfer of data. What the permissions prompt means
Saving a screenshot to the computer requires the downloads permission, according to the developer’s guide. When a page includes iframe content, GoFullPage may request tabs, webNavigation, and <all_urls> access. The developer says this access supports scrolling and rendering iframe content.
Google explains that access to all website data can allow an extension to read, request, or modify data on every page visited. That describes what the permission can enable; it does not establish that GoFullPage misuses it. If you decline the optional iframe-related permission, GoFullPage says it will not capture that page, but will continue to work on pages without iframes. The guide says these permissions are requested when needed, rather than granted in advance from the Options page. GoFullPage permissions guide
What is and is not independently established
The available information establishes what the developer says about its design and what permissions Chrome may present. It does not establish, through an independent security audit, current-build source-code review, or network-traffic measurement, that every screenshot always stays on-device or that no data is transmitted under every feature and version. Treat “stored locally” and “does not collect or use user data” as the developer’s claims, not an absolute guarantee.

How to decide whether to capture a private page
- Use the official extension listing. Install from the official GoFullPage Chrome Web Store listing, not a lookalike or third-party download.
- Read the permission prompt when it appears. Downloads access is needed to save an image; iframe capture can lead to broader website permissions. Decide whether the requested scope is acceptable for that page.
- Decline access if the scope is not acceptable. Per the developer, the capture will not run on that iframe page, while pages without iframes remain capturable.
- Consider the sensitivity of the page and image. Avoid capturing passwords, financial or medical records, customer data, or other content that should not be copied into an image. A screenshot saved locally can still be exposed if someone else accesses the device or the image is shared or synced.
- Inspect before sharing. Check the finished image for account details or other sensitive content before sending it.
- Recheck after updates. Permissions and version details can change; review the current listing and prompts rather than assuming they remain unchanged.
Which GoFullPage version and listing this answer covers
The official Chrome Web Store listing reviewed on October 3, 2026 showed version 8.9, updated September 25, 2026. Its change log says version 8.9 was released September 24, 2026, with a fix for a new URL requirement in Chromium 153 and improved dialogs. In a September 14, 2026 notice, the developer said the official Chrome extension had returned to the store after a removal it attributed to a copyright issue, not a security concern. The separate beta listing describes a channel that may receive features before they are fully tested and included in the official extension. The developer recommended the official version for a more stable experience in its September 14 update; beta behavior should not be treated as evidence about the official release.
