Usually, no—not continuously. If you only watch a service in a few months of the year, paying for those months and cancelling between them can cost less than keeping it year-round. The exception is when an annual plan or bundle’s access is worth paying for even during months you barely watch. Compare the months you expect to use a service, its current price and the specific shows or events you want; subscription count alone does not tell you what is good value.
The prices below are Canadian prices listed on official service pages accessed October 4, 2026. Prices and offers can change and may exclude tax. Catalogue availability is not compared here, so check each service for the programs and dates that matter to you.
How to tell whether a subscription is worth keeping
Use a simple cost-per-month-of-use calculation: divide the amount you expect to pay over a year by the number of months you will actually watch. For example, if you expect to watch for three months, divide the annual cost by three—not by 12—to see what those viewing months effectively cost. This is a budgeting comparison, not a prediction of savings; it assumes you can cancel and restart on terms that work for your account.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Pick the programming first. Write down the specific shows, films, sports or other events you want, and when they will be available. The services’ current catalogues and availability windows are not established here, so do not assume a particular title is available or exclusive.
- Count likely viewing months. Include months when you expect to watch enough to justify paying, not just months when you might open the app.
- Compare the payment options. Weigh monthly access against any annual commitment or bundle, including months you may not use it.
- Check how billing works. Confirm the renewal date, cancellation route and whether you pay the service directly or through a partner.
What the listed Canadian prices mean for each service
| Service or plan | Listed price | What occasional viewers should consider |
|---|---|---|
| Disney+ Standard With Ads | $8.99/month | Monthly option; the ad-supported tier does not include downloads. |
| Disney+ Standard | $15.99/month or $159.99/year | The annual amount is listed for Standard. Its value depends on how much you use the service over the year. |
| Disney+ Premium | $16.99/month or $169.99/year | The annual amount is listed for Premium. Plans differ in quality and concurrent streams as well as price. |
| Crave Standard With Ads | $11.99/month | Crave lists other bundles and promotions too; check the offer and renewal period shown for your account. |
| Disney+ Standard With Ads and Crave Standard With Ads bundle | $15.75/month | Disney+ advertises this bundle as saving over 24% compared with the listed individual prices. That comparison assumes you would otherwise pay for both services. |
| Netflix | Canadian price not established here | Netflix bills monthly and does not offer annual, multi-month or lifetime membership plans. Check the Canada-specific price for your account before comparing costs. |
| Prime Video | Current Canadian Prime membership and Crave channel prices not established here | Prime membership and paid Prime Video Channels are separate decisions; the historical Crave offer below does not establish current prices. |

When rotating subscriptions makes sense
For a monthly service, a rotate-in/rotate-out approach can make sense when you know what you want to watch and can finish it within a paid period. Subscribe for the intended viewing window, note the next billing date, then cancel if you do not expect to use the service in the following month. Before doing so, check whether a partner handles billing and whether cancellation takes effect immediately or at the period’s end.
Netflix
Netflix says it bills monthly on the signup date and has no annual, multi-month or lifetime membership plan. It also says cancellation stops future charges while allowing viewing through the end of the paid period, unless the account is restarted. Eligible accounts can pause for one month at a time and extend the pause up to three months total, or unpause earlier; some payment methods are not eligible. Check the account’s billing arrangement and pause eligibility before relying on that option. See Netflix’s cancellation instructions.

Crave
Crave says subscribers may cancel, but its renewal terms depend on the selected period and location. Its page says renewals are monthly in Quebec even when another period is shown. Renewals charge automatically at the then-applicable price; Crave says prices may increase and refunds are not offered. Check the renewal details displayed for your subscription before signing up. The terms are on Crave’s subscription page.
When an annual plan or bundle is a better fit
Disney+ annual plans
Disney+ lists annual Standard and Premium plans alongside monthly plans. An annual payment may suit someone who wants uninterrupted access and expects enough use across the year; it may be poor value if the service will sit unused for long stretches. Compare the annual price with the total monthly payments for the months you actually plan to subscribe, and account for the features you need. Disney+ says Standard and Premium include ad-free movies and series, while Standard With Ads has no download functionality; plan features also vary in quality and concurrent streams. Confirm current details on Disney+ Canada’s plan listing.

Disney+ and Crave bundle
The advertised $15.75/month bundle combines Disney+ Standard With Ads and Crave Standard With Ads. At the listed individual prices, paying separately would total $20.98/month. The bundle’s advertised saving matters to you only if you would independently pay for both services and use them in overlapping months. If you would use only one, compare the bundle price with that service’s standalone price instead of treating the advertised discount as money saved.

Separate the cost of Prime membership from the cost of any paid channel subscription offered through Prime Video. Amazon Canada announced Crave’s availability through Prime Video Channels on March 19, 2024, and described a Crave Premium offer then priced at $21.99/month. That is a dated offer, not evidence of today’s Crave channel price or the current Canadian cost or cancellation terms of Prime membership.
