Neither Costco nor Walmart is proven to be the cheaper choice for tech in general. The better deal depends on the exact product and configuration, the final checkout total, whether you already have a Costco membership, and how much you value each retailer’s return and warranty terms. Compare matching model numbers—not just similar-looking product names—before deciding.
How to compare prices fairly
A laptop, TV, or tablet can look like the same deal at both stores while differing in storage, memory, accessories, or other details. Start with the manufacturer’s model number and confirm that the configuration and included items match. Also check who is selling the item: a Walmart Marketplace listing may have different terms from an item sold directly by Walmart.
- Match the product: Compare the exact model number, configuration, and included accessories.
- Compare the checkout total: Include delivery charges and any required membership cost. If you already pay for Costco membership, consider whether it is an existing expense; if you would join only for this purchase, include the fee in your calculation. Costco describes computers as a member-benefit electronics category, but its current membership fee is not established here.
- Check the bundle and fulfillment: Verify that accessories, delivery, and other included services are equivalent rather than assuming two listings are interchangeable.
- Read the item’s terms: Confirm the return deadline, seller, warranty coverage, exclusions, and claims process on the product listing and applicable policy pages.
No matched live prices establish a general price winner. Prices, stock, offers, and product terms can change, so a specific purchase decision requires checking both current listings.
How do Costco and Walmart returns compare?
For U.S. shoppers, the retailers publish different standard return windows for many electronics. These are policy durations, not guarantees that every item qualifies: check the individual listing and current policy for exclusions and seller-specific terms.

Costco’s listed categories and timing are in its U.S. return policy, document version 18.0, published October 2, 2025. Walmart’s U.S. return policy provides the electronics exceptions to its general return terms. Policies can change; confirm the terms that apply to your purchase.
What Costco’s computer and TV warranty extension covers
Costco Technical and Warranty Services says qualifying computers and televisions receive an extension of the manufacturer’s warranty for up to two years. The extension is not a blanket two-year warranty on all electronics: touchscreen tablets are excluded from the computer extension, and coverage depends on the manufacturer’s warranty terms. Costco lists exclusions including physical and liquid damage. It says second-year service may be fulfilled through repair, replacement, or a refund up to the purchase price.

Costco may fit better when
- You already have a membership, or the total value of this and other purchases makes the membership worthwhile.
- The item qualifies for Costco’s published return or computer-and-TV warranty terms, and those terms matter to you.
- The exact product, bundle, delivery, and final price compare favorably with the competing listing.
Walmart may fit better when
- Its matching product has the lower total checkout price after relevant delivery costs.
- You want to avoid taking on a warehouse membership for this purchase.
- The item’s return eligibility and seller terms suit your needs.
These are decision conditions, not evidence that either store is consistently cheaper. The winning offer is the one with the better total value for the exact item you plan to buy.
