Usually not as a main tablet in 2026. The Verizon Ellipsis 7 is a discontinued, decade-old design with historical software evidence limited to the Android KitKat era. Its remaining case is narrow: a very cheap, working unit for a limited offline or legacy task, after you confirm the apps you need still work. If you want cellular service, have Verizon check the exact tablet’s IMEI before you pay.
What the Verizon Ellipsis 7 is—and what that means now
The Ellipsis 7 is a 7-inch Verizon LTE tablet, model QMV78. iFixit lists a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, a 1280 × 800 IPS display, a 3.2 MP rear camera without a flash, and front-facing speakers. Those are reference specifications, not evidence of how a used unit performs today. iFixit says Verizon replaced the model with the Ellipsis 8 in November 2014. iFixit’s device reference
Verizon’s historical update announcement says, “Android KitKat is now available for the Ellipsis 7.” The announcement also said users on certain older software builds had to contact support and ship the tablet for that software enhancement. This establishes a past KitKat-era update, not the tablet’s installed version today, a newer Android release, or a currently operating update service. Verizon’s update announcement
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor a purchase decision, that age makes practical compatibility more important than the original spec sheet: check the installed software and try the actual apps you intend to use. Do not assume a present-day app will install or run just because the tablet can turn on and connect to Wi‑Fi.

What to check before paying
- Confirm the model and installed software. On the tablet, open Settings > About tablet. Verizon’s user guide says this screen includes the model number, Android version, baseband, software and hardware versions, plus status information such as battery and network. Compare the details with the seller’s listing, then check whether your required apps install and work. Verizon Ellipsis 7 user guide
- Inspect and exercise the hardware. If possible, handle the device before buying. Check the display for cracks or defects and test touch response across the screen. Try the buttons, charging port, speakers, camera, Wi‑Fi, charging, and sleep/wake. Watch for abnormal heat or rapid battery drain. These checks help assess the specific used unit; published specifications cannot tell you its present condition.
- Make sure it can be reset and set up. Ask the seller to remove their accounts and factory-reset the tablet. Confirm you can get through setup and use it on Wi‑Fi. Avoid a unit that stays account-locked or cannot be reset.
- Verify cellular eligibility separately. Verizon’s general BYOD guidance says a device must be unlocked and compatible with its network, and its process checks the device ID. Get the exact unit’s IMEI/device ID and ask Verizon to check it before paying. Verizon’s general tablet-plan information does not establish that this discontinued model can be activated. Verizon BYOD FAQ
- Include repair risk in your budget. A battery replacement procedure is documented, but it involves removing the rear cover and SIM and using a prying tool. The existence of a repair guide does not guarantee that a safe, compatible replacement battery is available. Check the exact model and part before buying a tablet that needs repair, and account for the effort and risk of opening it. iFixit battery replacement guide
When it might still make sense
Consider it only if you have a specific, limited use in mind and the individual tablet passes the checks above. For example, it may suit an offline task or an older app you have already tested on that device. Treat Wi‑Fi-only use as a separate option from cellular use; do not pay extra on the assumption that LTE will activate.
Compare it with a newer used tablet on these points before deciding:

Verizon’s BYOD FAQ states: “If your device is unlocked and compatible with the Verizon network, you can bring it to us and activate it on a new or existing Verizon plan.” That is Verizon’s general rule; it is not confirmation that an Ellipsis 7 qualifies. Verizon BYOD FAQ
What is not established about a used Ellipsis 7
There is no reliable current used-market price or contemporary independent performance test established here, so a specific fair price or speed claim would be misleading. Prices and condition vary by listing, and battery health, app compatibility, and cellular eligibility depend on the particular unit. Judge a current offer against newer alternatives and the checks you can actually complete—not an assumed market value or a model-wide promise.
