Not confirmed. Nintendo has announced a rolling transition to Switch 2 and other products with user-replaceable batteries in territories served by Nintendo of Europe. Its announcement does not say the revised Switch 2 is coming to the United States. The U.S. availability claim in the original wording remains unverified.

What Nintendo has announced—and where

Nintendo says selected products will be replaced over time by versions containing user-replaceable batteries in territories where Nintendo of Europe conducts business. That is a European rollout, not a U.S. announcement. The company’s listed dates are estimates: availability may differ by country and can change with manufacturing, distribution, and other factors. Nintendo’s announcement does not establish a U.S. launch date, price, or retailer availability.

What changes on the revised Switch 2

Nintendo lists a slightly smaller battery and higher weight for the revised console. Its published figures are approximate specifications, not independent test results.

Specification Current Switch 2 Revised Switch 2
Battery capacity 5220mAh 5172mAh, approximately 1% lower
Console weight Approximately 401g Approximately 411g, about 10g heavier
Weight with Joy-Con 2 attached Approximately 534g Approximately 548g, about 14g heavier

Nintendo says there is no difference in functionality between current products and revised products with user-replaceable batteries. The figures and comparison above are from Nintendo’s 2026 announcement; they do not establish how battery life compares in everyday use.

When the revised console and controllers are expected

Nintendo lists October 2026 as the earliest estimated Nintendo Store availability for the revised Switch 2 console. The revised console is to include Joy-Con 2 controllers with user-replaceable batteries. A separately sold revised Joy-Con 2 pair is listed for winter 2026, as is a revised Switch 2 Pro Controller. These are estimated timings, not guarantees of arrival in every country or at other retailers.

Nintendo says battery replacement kits for each revised product will be available through Nintendo Store in Europe in the future, but it has not given a date in the cited announcement.

How to identify revised original Joy-Con

Nintendo provides these checks for its revised original Switch Joy-Con. They identify the controller revision; they do not mean that every existing Joy-Con can be safely opened or have its battery replaced by its owner. Nintendo’s identification guide says batteries not designated user-replaceable should be removed only by qualified professionals.

What U.S. buyers should know about compatibility

Nintendo of America says original Switch Joy-Con can pair wirelessly with Switch 2, but cannot attach to the Switch 2 console. To charge those controllers, use an original Switch console or a compatible accessory. Nintendo’s compatibility information also lists some older accessories—including the original Joy-Con charging grip and Joy-Con AA battery pack—as incompatible with Joy-Con 2. See Nintendo of America’s Switch and Switch 2 compatibility page.
