1Password may be worth paying for if you want a cross-device password manager with encrypted vaults, password generation, autofill, secure sharing and alerts about weak or compromised credentials. Its displayed introductory annual-billing prices are $2.99 per month for Individual and $4.49 per month for Families, in USD. Whether those features justify the subscription depends on your needs; the available evidence does not establish that 1Password outperforms competing password managers.

What’s the difference between 1Password Individual and Families?
Both personal plans list password generation, autosave and autofill, secure sharing, cross-device access, and alerts for weak or compromised credentials. Individual is for one user. Families supports up to five members and adds shared vaults and simple access controls, making it the more relevant option when several people need to share access.

How does 1Password protect your account?
1Password describes its stored data and vaults as end-to-end encrypted and its account protection as “Two-Key Derivation”: your account password works alongside a unique Secret Key. The company says the Secret Key adds 128 bits of entropy to the account password. These are vendor descriptions, not an independent validation of the security design. They also do not mean that device compromise, user error, or loss of account access is impossible.

Passkey storage is not the same as passkey account unlock
1Password says you can store and use passkeys on compatible websites and apps. Separately, its account-unlock page marks unlocking a new Individual account with a passkey as public beta. Those are distinct capabilities, and beta availability may change. Check the passkey feature page and account-unlock support page for current status.
Optional second-factor choices
1Password Support says a FIDO U2F-compatible hardware security key can be used as a second factor, with YubiKey and Titan given as examples. An authenticator app is another option. A hardware key is optional, not a subscription requirement. Before relying on either factor, plan for losing access to it: 1Password says sign-in on new devices may be blocked until two-factor authentication is turned off or account recovery is completed. Check the security-key guidance for the supported workflow.

Will 1Password work with your devices and browsers?
Compatibility depends on operating system, app feature and browser, and the vendor’s minimum requirements can change. Before subscribing, check the current system requirements for the devices and browsers you rely on, especially if your setup depends on passkeys, autofill or a hardware security key.
