Neither iPhone Camera Control nor the on-screen camera interface is proven to be easier for everyone. Camera Control uses a physical button and press-and-slide gestures; on-screen controls keep the shutter and camera adjustments visible on the display. The easier choice depends on what you are doing, how you hold the phone, and which gestures feel comfortable.
How Camera Control works
On supported iPhones, a click opens Camera. Click again to take a photo, or click and hold to record video. To access settings, lightly press twice to show the available controls, slide to the one you want, lightly press to select it, then slide to adjust it. Apple lists options such as exposure, depth, zoom, camera selection, Photographic Styles, and tone; availability varies by camera mode. You can also configure Camera Control to lock focus and exposure while held. See Apple’s Camera Control guide.
This puts camera actions on a physical control rather than requiring a tap on the display. But using its adjustment controls involves distinguishing a click from a light press and making sliding gestures. Whether that feels convenient or fiddly is a personal-use question, not something Apple’s instructions establish for everyone.
How the on-screen controls work
The display offers a visible shutter button, camera modes, and zoom controls. Tap the shutter to take a photo; press either volume button to take one as well. Tap or swipe to change modes, and zoom by pinching the screen or dragging the zoom control. Apple documents several ways to open Camera: its Home Screen icon, swiping left on the Lock Screen, the Lock Screen Camera button or Control Center, Siri, or the Action button on models that support it. These controls are visible and use familiar screen gestures, but they require interacting with the display. Depending on your grip or task, reaching the shutter or making a precise adjustment may suit you less than using a physical control.
Which is easier for each task?

The documented workflows show different ways to interact, not which one wins in speed, accuracy, or comfort. No published comparative measurement in the cited sources establishes relative ease, speed, or error rate. For a quick still, either method provides a direct shutter action; for adjustments, consider whether sliding on a physical control or using the visible screen controls feels more natural to you.

Adjust Camera Control if its gestures do not suit you
Camera Control’s press and swipe behavior can be customized under Settings > Accessibility > Camera Control. Apple documents options to change the pressure needed for a light press and the speed required for a light double-press, turn light-press or swipe gestures off, and practice the selected press force. You can also disable Camera Control. These settings let you tailor the interaction; they do not guarantee a particular accessibility outcome. See Apple’s Camera Control accessibility guide.
