Which phone has the better cameras?
There is no established controlled, same-scene comparison here to prove that either phone takes better photos overall. Their camera specifications point to different priorities, so the practical choice depends on framing, controls, video workflow, and the look you prefer.
iPhone 18 Pro Max: three 48 MP cameras and extensive video formats
Apple lists a 48 MP Fusion main camera with variable apertures of ƒ/1.48, ƒ/1.8, ƒ/2.8, and ƒ/4, plus 48 MP ultrawide and telephoto cameras. The telephoto is listed at 100 mm/4×; Apple also describes an 8× optical-quality telephoto option and a 16× optical-quality zoom range. These are Apple’s terminology and specifications, not a claim that every zoom setting uses a separate optical lens.

For video, Apple lists 4K Dolby Vision recording up to 120 fps on the main camera, ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, and Genlock compatibility. Those options may appeal to people who want advanced capture and post-production workflows, especially within Apple’s ecosystem.
Xiaomi 17 Ultra: large main sensor and mechanical zoom telephoto
Xiaomi highlights Leica imaging, a 50 MP 1-inch main sensor, and a 200 MP telephoto with mechanical optical zoom across 75–100 mm. That zoom range offers a different kind of framing flexibility from relying on a fixed telephoto focal length and digital cropping. A higher megapixel count alone does not establish better image quality.

Xiaomi India lists 8K at 30 fps and 4K Dolby Vision up to 120 fps. Its regional camera specifications should not be assumed to apply identically to every market SKU. Xiaomi also identifies a separately sold Xiaomi 17 Ultra Photography Kit Pro for buyers interested in its imaging accessories.

How do the displays, performance, and build compare?
Both phones are close in screen size, but Apple lists a higher pixel resolution. Apple specifies a 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR OLED at 2868 × 1320 and adaptive refresh up to 120 Hz. Xiaomi lists a 6.9-inch-class HyperRGB OLED at 2608 × 1200 with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate.

Brightness figures are not directly comparable: Apple claims up to 3000 nits outdoor peak, while Xiaomi India claims 3500 nits multi-scenario peak. The figures refer to different stated conditions, and neither is a shared laboratory measurement.
Apple specifies its A20 Pro chip. Xiaomi lists Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and 3D Dual-Channel IceLoop cooling. Xiaomi India lists a 16 GB RAM/512 GB configuration, but Xiaomi SKUs can vary by market; check the exact regional model before buying.

Apple’s technical specifications list IP68, tested to a maximum depth of 6 m for up to 30 minutes under controlled conditions. PhoneArena lists IP69 for Xiaomi 17 Ultra; verify the protection rating on Xiaomi’s official listing for the specific regional model before relying on it.
Which has longer battery life or faster charging?
Xiaomi lists a 6000 mAh typical battery, 90 W wired charging, and 50 W wireless charging. Xiaomi India says the wireless charger is sold separately.

Apple does not provide a comparable capacity figure in the cited materials. Instead, Apple claims up to 45 hours of video playback for eSIM-only iPhone 18 Pro Max models. Apple says this estimate used preproduction devices and software in August 2026 with LTE/5G and a representative usage profile; actual results vary. A capacity rating and a manufacturer playback estimate use different measures, so they do not establish which phone lasts longer in everyday use.

The available figures do not support a fair, current price-gap calculation. TechRadar reports launch starting prices of $1,299 in the U.S., £1,299 in the U.K., and AU$2,299 in Australia for the iPhone 18 Pro Max with 256 GB. PhoneArena lists Xiaomi 17 Ultra at €1,499 for a 16 GB RAM/512 GB configuration. These prices differ in country, currency, and storage, and the Xiaomi figure is a secondary database listing rather than a matched local retail quote.
For a useful comparison, check each phone’s current price in the same country, match storage as closely as possible, and include taxes, promotions, warranty coverage, and seller terms. Current stock and promotional pricing were not established in the cited sources.

Choose iPhone 18 Pro Max if
- You already use iOS or Apple devices and value continuity with that ecosystem.
- You want Apple’s listed ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, Genlock, and high-frame-rate Dolby Vision video options.
- You prefer a 48 MP camera system across the main, ultrawide, and telephoto modules.
Choose Xiaomi 17 Ultra if
- You want the 50 MP 1-inch main-camera design and 200 MP mechanical optical-zoom telephoto.
- High-wattage charging and the listed 6000 mAh typical capacity are priorities.
- You prefer Android, Leica-branded imaging features, or Xiaomi’s photography accessory option.
Before choosing Xiaomi, confirm the regional model’s camera configuration, network bands, eSIM support, AI feature availability, warranty, and local price. Xiaomi directs buyers to its local official site for availability; a global product page does not prove that every variant is sold or supported in every country. Apple’s launch materials identify iOS 27 and Apple Intelligence/Siri AI, while availability of features and languages can also depend on region and software updates.
Launch timing and regional availability
Xiaomi’s indexed official announcement says Xiaomi 17 Ultra was unveiled in Beijing on December 25, 2025, and went on sale through official channels on December 27, 2025. The announcement does not establish a universal release date, price, warranty, or retail channel for every country. Xiaomi’s global specifications page says its information is current as of February 2026, so regional listings are the more relevant reference for a specific purchase.
