The iPhone 17 is the smaller, lighter choice for buyers who want Apple’s iOS ecosystem; the Motorola Signature offers a larger, faster-refreshing display, a separate 3× optical telephoto camera and higher stated charging rates. There is no reliable current price gap to quote from the available figures: Motorola’s price is from its UK store, while the iPhone figures are US launch prices.

Which phone has the better display?
The Signature has the larger display at 6.8 inches and the higher maximum refresh rate at 165Hz. The iPhone 17’s 6.3-inch screen supports ProMotion up to 120Hz. The Signature’s size may suit people who want more room for video, games or reading, while the iPhone’s smaller dimensions go with a lighter handset. These numbers alone do not determine brightness, color accuracy or overall viewing quality.

Which camera setup fits your needs?
The main difference is the zoom hardware. The iPhone 17 has a 48MP main camera and a 48MP ultra-wide, with a 2× optical-quality telephoto option produced from its main camera. The Signature adds a dedicated periscope telephoto camera with 3× optical zoom alongside its 50MP main and ultra-wide cameras.
That gives the Signature a distinct optical-zoom lens, while the iPhone offers Apple’s camera and video workflow within iOS. Megapixel counts and lens descriptions are not a substitute for matched photo or video tests, so they cannot establish which phone takes better pictures overall.

Battery, charging and durability: what the specifications establish
Motorola lists the Signature with a 5,200mAh battery and charging rates of up to 90W wired and 50W wireless, as well as reverse-charging options. Apple does not state an iPhone 17 battery-capacity figure on its cited specifications page, and its charging statements have particular adapter conditions. The figures do not establish which phone lasts longer or how quickly either charges in everyday use; no matched battery test is available here.
The listed durability claims are not identical tests. Apple specifies its iPhone 17 IP68 rating as up to 6m for up to 30 minutes under IEC 60529. Motorola lists IP68/IP69 and MIL-STD 810H for the Signature. Do not treat those labels as proof that the phones have the same protection or can withstand every exposure.

What is the price difference?
A current, like-for-like price difference is not established. Motorola’s UK store displayed the Signature at £850, with £900 also shown, when accessed on October 7, 2026. TechRadar reported US iPhone 17 launch prices of $799 for 256GB and $999 for 512GB; those are launch figures, not verified current prices. The regions, currencies and time bases differ, so subtracting them would be misleading.
Check live listings in the same country and compare the same storage tier, unlocked or carrier status, tax treatment and date. Which should you buy?
Choose the iPhone 17 if
- You want iOS, Apple Intelligence or Apple’s ecosystem and camera/video workflow.
- You prefer a smaller, lighter phone: it is listed at 177g versus 186g for the Signature.
Consider the Motorola Signature if
- You want a larger screen with a higher stated maximum refresh rate.
- A dedicated 3× optical periscope telephoto camera is a priority.
- You value the listed charging rates or Motorola’s stated support window of up to seven years of OS upgrades and security patches. Check local support terms and feature availability before buying.
For either phone, verify the regional model, storage, warranty and current offer before judging value. The specifications support these trade-offs, but without matched testing or same-market current prices they do not establish an overall performance or value winner.
