Five product years separate the iPhone 13, introduced in 2021, and the iPhone 18 Pro, introduced in 2026. The newer Pro model brings a newer-generation chip, a brighter 120Hz-capable display, more advanced camera hardware, a higher Apple-rated video-playback figure, and USB-C instead of Lightning. Those are meaningful changes, but published specifications alone do not prove a particular speed gain or guarantee a specific real-world battery result.
This comparison is specifically between iPhone 13 and iPhone 18 Pro. The available specifications here do not establish the base iPhone 18’s hardware, so the two names should not be treated as interchangeable.

Specifications are from Apple’s iPhone 13 technical specifications and iPhone 18 Pro technical specifications. The playback figures are Apple’s published estimates, not results from a controlled head-to-head test.
How much faster is the iPhone 18 Pro?
The chip has advanced from A15 Bionic to A20 Pro. Apple lists a 6-core CPU in both, but the graphics and neural-processing specifications differ: iPhone 13 has a 4-core GPU and 16-core Neural Engine, while iPhone 18 Pro has a 7-core GPU with Neural Accelerators and dual 16-core Neural Engine.

That establishes a generational hardware change and a more capable listed graphics and neural-processing configuration. It does not establish a specific percentage speed improvement. Apple’s specifications do not provide a same-condition benchmark comparison, sustained-load measurement, or thermal test for these two phones. Everyday performance also depends on the apps and tasks involved, so a precise claim such as “X percent faster” would go beyond the available evidence.
What changes on the display?
The iPhone 18 Pro display is 0.2 inches larger diagonally: 6.3 inches versus 6.1 inches on iPhone 13. Both are OLED, but the Pro model adds adaptive ProMotion refresh rates up to 120Hz. That can support smoother motion and scrolling when the display is operating at a higher refresh rate; iPhone 13’s listed display does not include that feature.
Apple also lists higher brightness figures for iPhone 18 Pro: up to 1,000 nits typical maximum, 1,600 nits peak HDR, and 3,000 nits peak outdoors. For iPhone 13, the corresponding listed figures are 800 nits typical maximum and 1,200 nits peak HDR. These are specification limits, not a guarantee that every screen will appear at those levels in every situation.

For context, Apple said in its 2021 launch announcement that iPhone 13’s maximum outdoor brightness was 28 percent higher than iPhone 12’s, reaching 800 nits. That was a comparison with iPhone 12—not with iPhone 18 Pro. Apple’s iPhone 13 launch announcement also described its battery life relative to iPhone 12, not the newer Pro model.
How do the cameras compare?
Rear cameras
iPhone 13 has two 12MP rear cameras: a Main camera and an Ultra Wide camera. iPhone 18 Pro’s listed hardware includes a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera, alongside additional Pro camera and video features. This is a broader set of listed capture capabilities, but megapixel counts alone do not determine photo quality. Sensor and processing details, shooting conditions, and the specific camera being used all matter; the specifications cited here are not a comparative image-quality test.
Front cameras
The front-camera specification moves from a 12MP TrueDepth camera on iPhone 13 to an 18MP Center Stage camera on iPhone 18 Pro. Apple lists Center Stage features for the newer camera. The change is a hardware and feature update, not proof that every selfie or video call will look better in every setting.

What do Apple’s battery figures mean?
Apple lists up to 19 hours of video playback for iPhone 13 and up to 36 hours for iPhone 18 Pro. These are manufacturer-stated maximum estimates. The available specifications do not establish that the two phones were tested under identical conditions, and real battery life varies with settings, signal conditions, apps, and usage.

Apple’s 2021 statement that iPhone 13 could provide “up to two and a half more hours in a day” referred to iPhone 12 as the comparison model. It should not be read as a measured iPhone 13-versus-iPhone 18 Pro result.

The connector changes from Lightning on iPhone 13 to USB-C on iPhone 18 Pro. If you still use Lightning cables or accessories, check whether they will work with the new phone or whether you will need USB-C replacements or an appropriate adapter. The connector difference may affect your existing setup even if it does not change how you use the phone day to day.

Is upgrading from iPhone 13 worthwhile?
The case for upgrading is strongest if you specifically want the iPhone 18 Pro’s 120Hz-capable display, newer camera features, USB-C, or the higher battery-playback estimate published by Apple. If your iPhone 13 still meets your needs, the specifications alone do not establish that you must replace it: they do not provide an independent speed benchmark or predict how much benefit any particular owner will notice.
Before deciding, identify the change that matters most to you—display smoothness, camera options, connector compatibility, or battery endurance—and weigh it against the cost and inconvenience of switching devices and accessories. Apple’s iPhone comparison page is a place to check the current lineup, but this article’s detailed newer-model specifications apply to iPhone 18 Pro, not an unspecified base iPhone 18.
