Clowiz CodeGen can generate the source-code artifacts for an employee CRUD example: an iOS Swift client and a Spring Boot REST API. In Khaled Abu Shamat’s March 25, 2020 DZone tutorial, the generator produces those artifacts in about one minute. That claim applies to code generation only—not to creating projects, installing dependencies, configuring MySQL, wiring files into Xcode and Spring, starting the server, or testing the finished app.

What the Clowiz example builds

The tutorial uses an Employee record with required Name (text), Email (email), and Salary (double) fields. The finished system has an iOS Swift front end that calls a Spring Boot REST service for list, create, update, and delete operations.

Layer Generated or configured pieces Purpose
iOS Swift Employee model, table/list cell, add/edit UI, view controllers, Alamofire service Displays employees and sends CRUD requests
Spring Boot JPA entity, repository, REST controller Exposes the employee API and persists records
Project infrastructure Xcode project, Spring project, dependencies, MySQL, application settings Provides the runtime in which generated code operates

The generator therefore removes repetitive scaffolding; it does not deliver a complete, already-running application.

What “one minute” means

Abu Shamat describes Clowiz as generating both applications’ artifact source code “in one minute.” The tutorial does not present a controlled timing study, productivity benchmark, or independent comparison. Its own sequence still includes project creation, dependency installation, file placement, database configuration, backend startup, and client testing.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

For example, opening the Employee tab before the API is running produces a network error. The backend must be created and started before the generated client can load data.

iOS Swift setup in the tutorial

Create the host app

  1. Create a basic Swift iOS project in Xcode.
  2. Use a tab bar and navigation controller for the app shell.
  3. Add Alamofire, which the generated service uses for HTTP requests.
  4. Remove the storyboard and change the root view controller as shown in the tutorial.
  5. Create a basic Home screen before adding the employee screens.

Generate the employee artifacts

  1. Open Clowiz CodeGen and choose iOS.
  2. Name the artifact Employee.
  3. Add Name (Text), Email (email), and Salary (double), marking each field required.
  4. Download or copy the generated Swift source.
  5. Place each file in the appropriate Xcode group and target, then resolve any naming or project-structure differences.

The generated model, list cell, add/edit components, view controllers, and Alamofire service provide the client-side CRUD flow. The tutorial demonstrates displaying, adding, editing, searching, and deleting employee rows.

Spring Boot REST setup

Create the backend project

Create a Spring Boot project with Spring Web, Spring Data JPA, and the MySQL Driver. Add the generated Java files to the correct packages:

  • JPA entity: maps Employee fields to a database table.
  • Repository: supplies persistence operations through Spring Data JPA.
  • REST controller: exposes the employee endpoints consumed by the iOS service.

Configure MySQL and the server

  1. Create the local MySQL database and user required by your configuration.
  2. Set the datasource URL, credentials, and server settings in the Spring application configuration.
  3. Check that the generated entity annotations and database schema strategy match the Spring and JPA versions you selected.
  4. Run the Spring application and verify that the employee API responds before launching the iOS flow.

The Swift service URL must use the same host and port as the running backend. A mismatch, an unavailable server, or an emulator/device networking restriction will prevent requests from succeeding.

End-to-end run order

  1. Install the iOS and Spring dependencies.
  2. Generate the Employee artifacts in Clowiz.
  3. Copy Swift files into the Xcode project and Java files into their Spring packages.
  4. Configure MySQL and Spring datasource properties.
  5. Confirm the client’s base URL points to the backend host and port.
  6. Start Spring Boot.
  7. Run the iOS app, open Employee, and exercise list, create, edit, search, and delete operations.

Compatibility cautions for a current project

The walkthrough is dated 2020. Its Java sample imports javax.persistence, so it should not be treated as a drop-in example for a current Spring Boot 4 project without checking the required Jakarta namespace, dependency versions, configuration properties, and generated code.

Spring’s current support page displayed Spring Boot 4.1.x when checked. Use the current Spring “Getting Started: Building an Application with Spring Boot” guide for present-day project creation, then validate Clowiz output against the exact Boot, Java, JPA, MySQL, Xcode, Swift, and Alamofire versions you choose.

Common failure points

Network error when opening Employee

  • Start the Spring application first.
  • Check the Swift service base URL, host, and port.
  • For a simulator or physical device, ensure that “localhost” refers to the machine running the API, not an unreachable device-local service.
  • Confirm that the API route and HTTP method match the generated service.

Java compilation errors

  • Compare imports such as javax.persistence with the namespace required by your Spring Boot generation.
  • Verify that Spring Web, Spring Data JPA, and the MySQL Driver are present and compatible.
  • Check package declarations after moving generated files.

Swift build or runtime errors

  • Ensure every generated file belongs to the Xcode target.
  • Confirm Alamofire is installed using the dependency method supported by your Xcode version.
  • Resolve model, cell, controller, and storyboard-removal changes in the host project.

Database errors

  • Validate the database name, credentials, host, and port.
  • Check that the configured schema-generation behavior is appropriate for development and does not destroy data unexpectedly.
  • Inspect the Spring logs for connection, dialect, or entity-mapping failures.

When this approach is useful

Clowiz’s demonstrated value is fast generation of conventional CRUD scaffolding when you already know the target fields and API shape. It can give a prototype a starting model, screens, controllers, repository, and HTTP service.

It is less suitable as an unattended production solution: generated code still needs review for validation, authentication, authorization, error handling, migrations, API versioning, testing, accessibility, networking, and framework compatibility. The tutorial supplies no comparative measurements against hand-written code or other generators.

Bottom line

The Clowiz tutorial shows a plausible shortcut from an Employee schema to Swift and Spring Boot CRUD scaffolding. “One minute” describes producing those source artifacts, not delivering a configured, tested application. Because the instructions and imports come from 2020 and current Clowiz support is unconfirmed, use the workflow as a starting example and verify every dependency, namespace, endpoint, and networking assumption before relying on it today.
