iOS 27 finally removes two long-standing Photos limitations: you can build a customizable slideshow from any selected photos or videos and export it as a video, while Shared Albums can now handle full-resolution media and more flexible participation across Apple, Android, and Windows devices.
The two biggest Photos upgrades in iOS 27
1. Create a real slideshow from any selection
Photos is no longer limited to automatically generated Memories when you want a slideshow. Select photos or videos from an album, collection, or any multi-item view, then create a slideshow with controls for transition style, slide duration, and music.

You can enable looping and save the finished presentation as a video file. That makes the feature practical for birthdays, trips, school projects, and other occasions where you need a shareable movie rather than a slideshow that exists only inside Photos.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Select the photos or videos you want to use, or open the relevant album or collection.
- Choose the slideshow creation option in Photos.
- Adjust transitions, timing, music, and looping.
- Export the completed slideshow as a video file.
The source can include both still images and videos, so the result can combine short clips with photographs instead of treating them as separate projects.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
2. Shared Albums become useful for mixed-device groups
Shared Albums gain full-resolution photos and videos, addressing a major quality limitation for people who need an album for archiving or post-event editing rather than casual viewing. Participants can also react with emoji and receive broader contribution permissions.
People using Android or Windows can contribute, making a Shared Album more workable for weddings, team events, family gatherings, and other groups that do not all use iPhones.

| Shared Album capability | What iOS 27 adds |
|---|---|
| Media quality | Full-resolution photos and videos |
| Participation | Contributions from Android and Windows users, plus expanded participant permissions |
| Sharing method | Upload links for collecting media |
| Feedback | Emoji reactions |
| Management | Recent-activity view, separate photo/video filtering, and easier saving |
| Duration | An optional 30-day expiration for an album |
Because full-resolution files are larger than reduced previews, storage and download requirements can be higher for participants. Check available device and iCloud space before collecting a large event library.

New AI editing tools in Photos
Apple describes Spatial Reframing and upgraded Clean Up as Apple Intelligence editing features. iOS 27 also adds Extend, which goes beyond the original crop and generates content to fill the expanded area.

- 6.1inch Super Retina XDR display. Aluminum with color-infused glass back. Ring/Silent switch
- Dynamic Island. A magical way to interact with iPhone. A16 Bionic chip with 5-core GPU
- Advanced dual-camera system. 48MP Main | Ultra Wide. Super-high-resolution photos (24MP and 48MP). Next-generation portraits with Focus and Depth Control. 4X optical zoom range
- Emergency SOS via satellite. Crash Detection. Roadside Assistance via satellite
- Up to 26 hours video playback. USB C, Supports USB 2. Face ID
Spatial Reframing
Reframe uses spatial information and AI to alter the apparent perspective of a photo. Touch and drag the image to adjust the viewing angle, creating a different sense of depth without taking another picture.
Extend
Extend expands a photo beyond its original borders and generates the missing areas. Results are generated content, not additional details recovered from the camera file, so inspect edges and repeating patterns before using the image for important work.

- There will be no visible cosmetic imperfections when held at an arm’s length.
- This product is eligible for a replacement or refund within 90 days of receipt if you are not satisfied.

Enhanced Clean Up
Clean Up can remove larger unwanted objects and offers Fast, High Quality, and Auto processing choices. Fast favors quicker results; High Quality can take longer; Auto lets the system choose. As with any generative removal tool, review the result for distortions around people, text, and complex backgrounds.
Other Photos changes worth knowing
- Video frame capture: save an individual frame from a video as a photo.
- Keywords and ratings: add keywords and one-to-five-star ratings, then filter by them.
- New Utilities folders: Captured by Me and Identity Documents help separate commonly needed items.
- Sync Immediately: prioritize immediate iCloud uploading for the day instead of relying on normal background timing.
- Sharing and browsing: invitations are easier to manage, optional album expiry is available, recent activity is visible, and Collections render faster.
Which iPhones support the changes?
General iOS 27 Photos improvements and organization features support iPhone 11 and later. The new AI editing tools require Apple Intelligence-capable hardware, including iPhone 15 Pro and later models.

Compatibility is not the only condition. Apple says availability can vary by iPhone model, region, language, and carrier. Server-based Apple Intelligence features may also impose daily usage limits, so a supported phone does not guarantee identical access everywhere.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What this means for common Photos workflows
Making a family or travel video
Choose the exact photos and clips you want, set the pacing and music, and export one video. This is more predictable than relying on a Memory whose selection and timing are automatically chosen.
Collecting everyone’s event photos
Create a Shared Album, invite participants or distribute an upload link, and let people add full-resolution media from iPhone, Android, or Windows. Use recent activity and photo/video filters to monitor incoming files, then save the items you need.
Editing on an older iPhone
An iPhone 11 or newer can receive the broader Photos and organization improvements, but Reframe, Extend, and the upgraded Clean Up require the newer Apple Intelligence hardware tier. If those tools do not appear, check the model first, then region, language, carrier, and service availability.
Quick Recap
Practical trade-offs
- Slideshow control: far more control and a video export, but the exported file consumes storage like any other video.
- Shared Albums: full-resolution media and cross-platform contributions improve collaboration, while larger files can increase upload, download, and storage demands.
- AI editing: Reframe, Extend, and Clean Up expand what can be done inside Photos, but require compatible hardware and may be subject to server-side limits.
- Cloud behavior: Shared Albums and Sync Immediately depend on iCloud uploading, so network access and available storage affect when files become available.
