If your iPhone battery started draining faster after installing iOS 27, the update may still be doing work in the background. Apple says this can temporarily affect battery life and thermal performance; wait a few days, then check Battery settings to see whether the drain continues and what is using power. If it persists, use these seven checks to address the likely cause rather than changing every setting at once.
1. Give post-update activity a few days
After an iOS update, some tasks continue in the background. Apple says that activity can affect battery life and thermal performance. If you installed the update recently, allow a few days and then compare battery use again. This is a troubleshooting step, not a guarantee that every post-update battery problem will resolve on that schedule.

2. Find what is using the battery
Before disabling features or deleting apps, check the usage details:

- Open Settings > Battery.
- Review Daily Usage and App and System Activity to identify apps or system activity associated with higher use.
- Check on-screen and background activity, notifications, and cellular coverage. A demanding app, frequent notifications, or poor signal can be more relevant than the update itself.

3. Reduce display power use
A bright display uses more power. Lower brightness in Control Center or in Settings, and consider shortening the time before the screen locks so it does not stay on when you are not using it. Apple identifies both high brightness and display use as factors to check when battery life is poor.

- iPhone 15 and later: Settings > Battery > Power Mode > Low Power Mode.
- iPhone 14 and earlier: Settings > Battery > Low Power Mode.
Depending on the iPhone, Low Power Mode can reduce brightness, set Auto-Lock to 30 seconds, pause iCloud Photos, and turn off automatic downloads, email fetch, and Background App Refresh. Some tasks may run more slowly. Apple says the mode turns off automatically when the iPhone reaches 80% charge or higher. See Apple’s Low Power Mode instructions for current details.
5. Check whether Adaptive Power is available
On supported iPhones, Adaptive Power can make performance adjustments, slightly lower brightness, limit background activity, and turn on Low Power Mode when the battery reaches 20%. Apple’s iOS 27 guide says availability depends on the model; it may already be on by default on some supported devices.

To check, open Settings > Battery > Power Mode and look for Adaptive Power. If it is not there, your iPhone may not support the feature. The setting’s availability or wording can vary by model and localization. Apple’s iOS 27 Power Modes guide describes Adaptive Power and its behavior.

A weak or absent mobile signal can contribute to battery use. Check the Battery screen for coverage-related activity before assuming an app or the update is responsible. If you use 5G and its faster speeds do not noticeably improve your experience, Apple recommends 5G Auto, which lets the iPhone use LTE when appropriate.

Coverage and available cellular settings depend on your location, carrier, and iPhone. Apple discusses signal conditions and 5G Auto in its battery-drain guidance.
7. Check battery health if the problem continues
If the drain persists after checking usage and settings, look at battery health:
- iPhone 15 and later: open Settings > Battery > Battery Health.
- iPhone 14 and earlier: open Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging.
If iOS displays a service message, Apple recommends having the battery serviced by Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. Settings can show battery condition, but they cannot restore capacity lost through battery aging. Apple’s battery health guide explains the available information and service guidance.
