dxui is a Go framework for composing desktop interfaces from declarative view descriptions, and its project documents cgo-disabled builds. It may be worth evaluating if you want a Go-based application framework with common layout, input, and control components; before adopting it, account for its pre-v1 API and verify that its GUI runtime works on your target platforms.

What is dxui?

The dxui project describes itself as “A declarative desktop GUI framework for Go.” Rather than constructing the interface solely through imperative widget operations, an application returns a description of its interface as a View. The framework reconciles that description with an internal retained tree.

Application state stays in your Go code. Callbacks can update that state, after which the application rebuilds its root view description and dxui reconciles the result. This is a way to organize UI updates, not a requirement to move application logic into the framework. The [project README](https://github.com/dxui-org/dxui) and [package documentation](https://pkg.go.dev/github.com/dxui-org/dxui) describe the model and current API.

What does the project document?

The package documentation presents dxui as more than a collection of standalone widgets: it describes an SDL3 application and window runtime, layout, painting, themes, text, images, icons, and controlled text editors. The following is the project’s stated scope, not an independent evaluation of each feature.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Layout and scrolling: Box, Scroll, and VirtualList, with layout described as deterministic under ADR-0005.
  • Text and media: Text, Label, Icon, Image, and Avatar. The docs describe pure-Go text, lightweight vector icons, and guarded pure-Go raster images.
  • Actions and grouped controls: Button, TextButton, ButtonGroup, and InputGroup.
  • Additional interface features: styling, runtime themes with typed APIs, inputs, menus, tabs, overlays, and selection controls. The docs also describe controlled Input and Textarea editors.
  • Rendering model: backend-neutral paint commands, according to the package documentation.

The README’s examples include a component studio, calculator, and login form; the login example includes a software-rendering option. Examples help illustrate intended use, but do not establish production readiness or independently verify every listed component.

What do you need to run a dxui example?

The README lists Go 1.25 or newer and a native desktop environment as requirements for running GUI examples. Its quick start fetches the module, creates an app, supplies a root function that returns a dxui.View, then runs the app:

// Return the application's root view.
        return dxui.View{}

The empty view above only sketches the documented application structure; replace it with the interface you want to display. See the [README quick start](https://github.com/dxui-org/dxui) for the project’s actual component examples.

Run the application on the main goroutine

The README says to call App.Run directly from main. It blocks until the application closes. For state changes initiated by background goroutines, the documented mechanism is App.Update; use it to request an update rather than assuming a background goroutine can safely manipulate UI state directly. The [API documentation](https://pkg.go.dev/github.com/dxui-org/dxui) describes these behaviors.

Build with cgo disabled

The project documents cgo-free builds using CGO_ENABLED=0 for macOS and Linux, and a corresponding environment-variable setting in PowerShell for Windows. Consult the [README build instructions](https://github.com/dxui-org/dxui) for the exact commands for your shell and platform. This is documented build support: a successful compile does not by itself establish that the GUI launches or works correctly on a particular operating system and architecture.

What should you check before adopting dxui?

Expect a pre-v1 API

The package listing reports dxui v0.0.2, published September 23, 2026. The package documentation identifies the API as pre-v1 and warns that incompatible corrections may occur during v0.x without deprecated aliases. For an application you intend to maintain, review the current release notes and pin the version you build against rather than assuming the API is stable. Check the [package listing](https://pkg.go.dev/github.com/dxui-org/dxui) and [project repository](https://github.com/dxui-org/dxui) for current details.

Verify runtime support on your actual target

The README describes a tagged native lifecycle smoke test as part of make ci, alongside formatting, vet, tests, and cgo-disabled builds. It also cautions that a skipped native test does not demonstrate GUI runtime support on that platform. Treat compiling with cgo disabled and validating a functioning native GUI as separate checks; run the application on each operating system and architecture you plan to ship.

When reporting a bug, the README asks for the OS and architecture, Go version, reproduction steps, and a minimal example for rendering or input issues. Those details are also useful when assessing whether a reported issue applies to your deployment target.

Measure the qualities your application needs

The dxui author, Truda, reported a 7 MB binary and 22 MB memory use for a hello-dxui example in 2026, while noting that results vary with platform, build configuration, and application complexity. These are author-reported figures for that example, not an independent benchmark or a framework-wide guarantee. They are not directly comparable to another framework’s measurements unless the platform, build settings, and workload are comparable. [The announcement](https://github.com/dxui-org/dxui) provides the attribution and qualification.

The material available from the project establishes its documented cgo-free build support, pre-v1 status, and component scope. It does not establish comparative performance, independent accessibility testing, packaging requirements for your distribution, or independent validation of every platform. Evaluate those points against your own application: test text and input behavior, investigate how you will package and deploy it, and measure representative workloads on the systems you intend to support.

Is dxui a fit for your desktop project?

Consider trying dxui if its declarative Go model and documented controls match your interface, and building with cgo disabled matters to your toolchain. Before committing, confirm that a real window and the input paths you need work on your target systems, assess the pre-v1 compatibility risk, and validate deployment and performance requirements with your own application. The key question is not just whether dxui can compile, but what evidence you need from it before you trust it with your desktop project.
