ServeTheHome’s September 26, 2024 video, “Intel Tops AMD with a High-End 256 Thread Intel Xeon 6900P Granite Rapids AP,” accompanies the publication’s launch coverage of Intel’s Xeon 6900P Granite Rapids-AP processors. Its page says the video discusses the chips, the wider Xeon 6 family, and competition with AMD EPYC, and includes footage of the system and processors. It is informational coverage—not an Intel product review or, by itself, evidence that Xeon beats EPYC.
What the video covers
ServeTheHome describes the video as commentary on the Xeon 6900P launch and Xeon 6 family, with discussion of AMD EPYC competition and footage of the system and chips. The video page was published September 26, 2024: ServeTheHome: Intel Xeon 6900P Granite Rapids-AP The Video.
The video’s title uses “256 Thread,” but that figure is not a specification for every processor in the 6900P family. It matches the thread count Intel currently lists for the specific Xeon 6980P model.
What the Xeon 6900P name means
Xeon 6900P is a processor family, and the Xeon 6980P is one model in it. Intel’s current product comparison lists the 6980P with 128 cores, 256 threads, 504 MB cache, a 500 W TDP, up to 12 memory channels, and two-socket scalability. These are 6980P figures, not specifications to assume for every 6900P SKU: Intel Xeon 6980P specifications and Intel product comparison.
#1 Best Overall
ServeTheHome’s September 24, 2024 launch analysis characterizes the 6900P launch platform as a dual-socket Xeon platform for high-performance computing. It describes support for 12-channel DDR5-6400 or MRDIMM memory and 96 PCIe 5.0 lanes per CPU. Those are launch-article platform details, separate from Intel’s current model specification page and not performance results: ServeTheHome’s Xeon 6900P launch analysis.
Does the video show that Xeon is faster than AMD EPYC?
No general winner follows from the fact that the video discusses AMD EPYC. A fair comparison needs workload-specific benchmark results and matching platform context; the available page description does not establish a benchmark outcome. Compare core type and count, the benchmark workload, memory configuration, expansion needs, power and cooling, and total system cost before drawing a conclusion.

The launch analysis quotes Patrick Kennedy describing the processor as “Intel’s big iron dual socket Xeon for high-performance computing.” Its disclosed context matters: Intel supplied the pre-production development system, and the article says it was sponsored by Intel. The article also notes rough edges in that pre-production platform and defers some power figures until an OEM system with more realistic fan curves. Those details are reasons to distinguish launch commentary from independent, production-system testing.

Intel’s socket support table lists LGA7529-1 for Xeon 6 6900P processors. Socket information alone does not establish that a particular motherboard or server supports a particular processor; confirm the exact CPU, board or OEM system, BIOS, memory, and cooling compatibility before purchase.
