Intel UHD Graphics 630 is an integrated GPU found in selected 8th-, 9th-, and 10th-generation Intel processors. It is suitable for desktop work, video playback, streaming, and lighter games, but it is not a replacement for a modern dedicated graphics card.

Its real-world performance varies more than the name suggests. The processor model, laptop power limits, cooling, driver, and especially whether system memory runs in single- or dual-channel mode all affect the result. The figures below should therefore be treated as a practical range, not as the specification of one identical chip.

Intel UHD Graphics 630 specifications

The UHD Graphics 630 designation covers several Coffee Lake and Comet Lake processor configurations. Intel’s Core i7-9700K, for example, lists a 350 MHz graphics base frequency and a maximum dynamic frequency of 1.20 GHz.

Specification UHD Graphics 630 detail

Clock speed: why 1.2 GHz is not guaranteed

“Graphics Max Dynamic Frequency” is the highest supported render clock, not a speed the GPU must maintain continuously. The actual frequency changes according to workload, temperature, processor power limits, BIOS settings, and the cooling system.

Notebookcheck’s UHD Graphics 630 database includes tested systems with graphics clocks of roughly 1.00 to 1.25 GHz. A laptop may briefly reach its advertised maximum and then reduce frequency as it reaches its thermal or power limit. A desktop with better cooling can sustain higher performance than a similarly named mobile configuration.

To check the graphics device and driver in Windows, right-click the Start button and choose Device Manager, then expand Display adapters. For live clock, temperature, and utilization data, tools such as GPU-Z or HWiNFO are more useful than the maximum frequency printed on a product page.

Does UHD Graphics 630 have VRAM?

No. UHD Graphics 630 has no dedicated graphics-memory chips. It reserves and dynamically borrows part of the computer’s system RAM.

Windows can make this confusing by displaying a “Dedicated Video Memory” value. Intel explains that Windows may report 128 MB of fictitious dedicated video memory for compatibility, even though the GPU does not contain physical VRAM. The amount of shared memory available can change with the operating system, BIOS, installed RAM, and workload. For UHD Graphics 620 and 630, Windows can use up to one-half of system memory as graphics memory, but that is a maximum addressable amount, not a permanent allocation.

Changing a motherboard’s DVMT Pre-Allocated setting does not add real VRAM or turn the integrated GPU into a discrete graphics card. It changes the amount reserved in advance. Many systems hide the setting entirely.

Memory configuration matters

Because the GPU uses system RAM, memory bandwidth has a direct effect on performance. A system with two matching memory modules running in dual-channel mode will generally perform better than one with a single module. This is particularly important when comparing benchmarks from different PCs.

For a UHD 630 computer intended for gaming, check:

  • Whether RAM is running in single- or dual-channel mode
  • Memory speed and capacity
  • Whether the BIOS has reduced memory speed
  • How much RAM remains available to Windows and applications

Display support and 4K output

UHD Graphics 630 can drive 4K displays, but the exact limit belongs to the processor and platform rather than the GPU name alone. The motherboard’s video outputs, connector version, firmware, and display also matter.

For the Core i7-9700K, Intel lists these maximums:

Output Listed maximum
HDMI 4096 × 2304 at 24 Hz
DisplayPort 4096 × 2304 at 60 Hz
Integrated eDP panel 4096 × 2304 at 60 Hz

Those figures do not mean every UHD 630 desktop supports 4K at 60 Hz. A motherboard may expose only HDMI, use an older implementation, or impose a lower refresh-rate limit. Check the exact CPU and motherboard manuals before buying a 4K monitor.

Video decoding and Quick Sync

UHD Graphics 630 includes hardware video acceleration through Intel Quick Sync Video. Supported media features include hardware decode paths for codecs such as HEVC and VP9, although the exact profile, bit depth, HDR support, and encode/decode behavior depend on the processor generation and application.

In a supported application, Quick Sync can handle much of the work involved in video playback or transcoding instead of making the CPU perform every operation. In applications such as HandBrake, Plex, or video editors, select the Intel Quick Sync encoder when it is available and compare quality and performance with software encoding. A missing Quick Sync option can indicate an incorrect driver, unsupported codec profile, or an application configuration issue.

UHD Graphics 630 gaming performance

The following recorded results show the kind of settings required. They are examples from specific systems, not guaranteed frame rates for every UHD 630 computer.

Game Resolution and settings Recorded result
Rocket League 1280 × 720, Performance 67.8 FPS; recorded range 59–78 FPS
DiRT 4 1280 × 720, Ultra Low 52 FPS; recorded range 49–55 FPS
FIFA 19 1280 × 720, Low 57.1 FPS
FIFA 19 1920 × 1080, Medium 29.9 FPS
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey 1280 × 720, Low 11 FPS; not playable
Metro Exodus 1280 × 720, Low 15.4 FPS
The Division 2 1280 × 720, Low 23 FPS

Older competitive and less demanding games can be playable at 720p with low or performance-oriented settings. Modern, graphically demanding games may require resolution scaling and still deliver an uneven experience. UHD 630 is not a sensible choice for high-refresh-rate 1080p gaming or current AAA titles at medium or high settings.

How to improve UHD Graphics 630 performance

  1. Use dual-channel RAM. Two matched modules can provide substantially more memory bandwidth than one module.
  2. Install the correct graphics driver. Start with the PC or laptop manufacturer’s driver, particularly if the system has custom display routing or power management.
  3. Lower resolution first. Try 1280 × 720 or an in-game resolution scale before reducing every visual option.
  4. Use low settings and disable expensive effects. Shadows, ambient occlusion, reflections, anti-aliasing, and volumetric effects are common performance drains.
  5. Keep the system cool. Dust, blocked laptop vents, or an aggressive power-saving profile can reduce the sustained graphics clock.
  6. Close background applications. Integrated graphics share system memory and CPU resources, so browsers, launchers, and overlays can affect frame pacing.

Drivers and supported operating systems

Intel moved graphics for 6th- through 10th-generation processors, including UHD Graphics 630, to a legacy software-support model on July 27, 2022. Legacy support focuses on critical fixes and security updates rather than the normal stream of new features and game optimizations.

Intel’s current UHD Graphics 630 support listing identifies Graphics Driver 31.0.101.2141, dated April 6, 2026, for 7th- through 10th-generation processor graphics on Windows 10 and Windows 11. Intel also lists 64-bit Linux support. Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 are not listed as supported operating systems for UHD Graphics 630.

For a laptop or prebuilt desktop, use this installation order:

  1. Open the manufacturer’s support page and search by the computer’s exact model or service tag.
  2. Download the latest graphics driver supplied for that model.
  3. Install it and restart the computer.
  4. If the manufacturer provides no usable driver, try Intel’s generic package.
  5. If the generic driver causes a blank screen, missing monitor output, brightness problems, or installation failure, return to the manufacturer’s package.

OEM systems may customize display connections, firmware, and power behavior. That is why Intel’s generic driver can work correctly on one UHD 630 computer but cause problems on another.

UHD Graphics 630 versus HD Graphics 630

The names are similar but the GPUs should not be treated as interchangeable. HD Graphics 630 is mainly associated with 7th-generation Kaby Lake processors, while UHD Graphics 630 appears on later Coffee Lake and Comet Lake processors. Compare the exact processor model rather than assuming that “630” describes one fixed performance level.

What to check before buying a UHD 630 computer

When a used PC or laptop is advertised as having “UHD 630 graphics,” ask for the processor model and inspect the complete configuration. The GPU label alone does not tell you the sustained gaming performance.

  • Exact CPU model and whether it is desktop or mobile
  • Installed RAM capacity, speed, and channel configuration
  • Available display outputs and their maximum refresh rates
  • Cooling condition and laptop power mode
  • Windows version and current driver availability
  • Whether the system has a separate graphics card that is being confused with the integrated GPU

FAQ

Is Intel UHD Graphics 630 good for gaming?

It is adequate for older, lightweight, and competitive games at 720p with low settings. It is not suitable for demanding modern games at 1080p medium or high settings. Examples include about 67.8 FPS in Rocket League at 720p Performance, but only 11 FPS in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey at 720p Low in Notebookcheck tests.

How much VRAM does UHD Graphics 630 have?

It has no dedicated VRAM. The GPU dynamically shares system RAM. Windows may show a small dedicated-memory value, commonly 128 MB, for compatibility, but that does not represent physical graphics memory.

Can UHD Graphics 630 run a 4K monitor?

Yes, but the maximum resolution and refresh rate depend on the exact processor, motherboard output, connector, firmware, and monitor. Intel lists up to 4096 × 2304 at 60 Hz over DisplayPort for the Core i7-9700K, while its HDMI listing is 4096 × 2304 at 24 Hz.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does UHD Graphics 630 support Windows 11?

Yes. Intel lists 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11 support for UHD Graphics 630, along with 64-bit Linux. The graphics family is now under Intel’s legacy support model, so future driver releases focus mainly on critical fixes and security updates.

The Bottom Line

Intel UHD Graphics 630 is a capable basic display and media engine, with DirectX 12, Quick Sync Video, and support for 4K output on suitable platforms. Its gaming performance is limited, and there is no dedicated VRAM. Expect playable results mainly in older or lightweight games at 720p Low, while modern AAA games will usually need major compromises or a discrete GPU. When comparing systems, prioritize the exact processor, dual-channel memory, cooling, and motherboard display outputs—not the UHD 630 name alone.
