For an artist-led Instagram profile, a Creator account is a sensible starting point; choose Business when the account’s business contact, sales, or operational needs matter more. Both are professional account types with useful tools and analytics. Before switching, check the music options for your account and the rights for the specific track and use.
What Creator and Business accounts have in common
Both are professional account types, and both provide tools and data about posts and followers. WIPO’s 2024 guide to making a living from music gives profile visits, shares, and the times followers are typically online as examples of available insights. Treat those examples as a 2024 description, not a guarantee of today’s exact interface.
The evidence does not establish that either account type improves reach or produces better analytics. Choose based on the workflows and content you need, rather than an assumed growth advantage.
When a Creator account makes sense for a musician
Instagram introduced Creator accounts with features aimed at influencers. WIPO’s 2024 music-industry guide says those features can also be useful to music creators, making Creator a reasonable fit when the profile centers on the artist, releases, and music content. That does not make it the best choice for every musician.

Brand collaborations
Meta described Creator Marketplace as a route for creators to connect with brands. In its February 21, 2024 announcement, Meta said creators could join through the professional dashboard, indicate relevant brands and interests, and receive partnership opportunities. It also described partnership ads. Meta said: “Creators can review the details and requirements of the opportunity, as well as the rate, all within the Instagram app.”
Access and availability may vary by region and change over time, so check the current Instagram app before relying on this workflow.

When a Business account may fit better
Consider Business if the account depends on business-oriented contact, sales, or operational features. The available evidence confirms that both account types have professional tools, but it does not provide a complete, current feature-by-feature comparison. Check the settings and tools currently available to your account before switching to meet a specific business need.

Can Business accounts use music on Instagram?
Not every account or post type necessarily has access to the same music options. An Instagram Help Center excerpt surfaced in a third-party result in September 2026 says certain business accounts and certain post types do not have access to the licensed music library. This is not evidence that all Business accounts lack music access.

Library availability and permission to use a track are separate questions. Access to a song in Instagram does not by itself establish that it is cleared for every commercial context. Check the track, account, intended post, and applicable rights terms in the app before publishing. Do not assume a Creator account grants broader commercial music rights.
How to choose between Creator and Business
- Check the music you need. Look for the specific tracks and formats you plan to use from your account, then verify that the intended use is permitted.
- Decide whether creator-brand tools matter. If brand opportunities are part of your work, check whether Creator Marketplace is currently available to you and review its terms in the app.
- Identify your business workflow. If contact, sales, or operational needs are central, confirm that the account type you select supports the features you actually rely on.
- Choose for the work, not for a growth promise. There is no established basis here to expect a reach or analytics advantage from changing account type.
Recording music videos for Instagram
You do not need a dedicated camera to begin making artist clips. WIPO’s 2024 guide says a smartphone is usually adequate for video and advises holding the phone or camera steadily. A phone tripod is one practical way to steady a phone, but it is an accessory suggestion—not a tested or endorsed product.
