FlyDubai Flight FZ1073 diverted from Dubai to Tel Aviv and landed safely at Tabuk Airport, Saudi Arabia, on September 30, 2026, after an incident in the flight deck. FlyDubai says on-duty crew members secured the aircraft and passengers assisted. The UAE has ordered an investigation; the cause and motive have not been established in the official statements reviewed.
What happened on FlyDubai flight FZ1073?
FZ1073 was travelling from Dubai International Airport to Ben Gurion International Airport when the flight-deck incident occurred. FlyDubai later described it as an altercation in the cockpit. The airline said on-duty FlyDubai crew members who were travelling on the flight secured the aircraft, diverted it and landed safely at Tabuk Airport. The Associated Press reported a more specific account: it said the captain was wounded and fought off the copilot, with passengers intervening. AP also reported that the captain was Indian and seriously injured, and that the copilot was suspected of starting the clash and believed to be Omani. Why did the flight divert to Tabuk?
FlyDubai says the crew diverted and landed at Tabuk after the flight-deck incident. The available airline and government statements do not give a confirmed cause for the altercation or a fuller account of the decision-making in the cockpit. The diversion was the reported response; the reason behind the incident itself remains under investigation.

What does AP’s tracking-based timeline show?
The Associated Press assembled this timeline from Flightradar24 and AirNav Radar flight-tracking records. Times below are GMT. They are reported tracking observations, not findings from a published accident or criminal investigation. AP’s timeline and account
- 03:05: The aircraft took off from Dubai bound for Tel Aviv.
- 05:21:09: The first recorded sign of descent from 34,000 feet.
- 05:22:40: It descended to 16,600 feet, then climbed to 21,725 feet three seconds later.
- 05:24:29: It descended to 15,000 feet, the lowest altitude AP reported, and remained there until landing.
- 05:28: It transmitted squawk 7700 near the Saudi-Jordanian border.
- 05:35: It changed to squawk 7500.
- 05:42: It turned west and briefly entered Jordanian airspace.
- 05:46: It turned southwest toward Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.
- 06:28: It returned to squawk 7700.
- 06:58: It approached and landed at Tabuk Airport.
What 7700 and 7500 mean
In the reported sequence, 7700 is the general-emergency transponder code and 7500 is the code for unlawful interference. The codes identify what was being signalled to air traffic control; by themselves, they do not establish why the crew selected them or prove what happened in the cockpit. AP reported the sequence as 7700, then 7500, then 7700 again.

How many people were on board, and were they safe?
The totals reported by the two sources differ. AP’s account says 182 people were on board; FlyDubai’s later CEO statement says 172 passengers and crew were aboard and safe. The sources do not reconcile the ten-person discrepancy, so neither figure should be treated as a combined or independently confirmed total. AP FlyDubai

What is known about the investigation?
FlyDubai says a full official investigation led by the relevant authorities is underway and that the airline is supporting it. Its spokesperson said the underlying reasons and motives were unknown at the time of the statement. The airline also said it suspended Tel Aviv operations at the request of authorities, a measure reported as part of its update rather than a permanent route decision. FlyDubai’s FZ1073 update
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Attorney-General ordered a team of specialized Public Prosecution members to investigate the circumstances and causes. The ministry said investigators would examine any possible connection to terrorist activity or intent and whether there had been prior planning or direction. These are questions being investigated, not evidence that terrorism, planning or direction occurred.
