Neither host is a proven all-around winner: the available evidence does not establish a speed or reliability advantage for either one. The more useful distinction is fit. InMotion lists shared, WordPress, VPS, dedicated, and reseller hosting. Choose between comparable plans only after accounting for hosting type, term and renewal prices, administration, backups, migration needs, and the exact service commitment.

How the hosting catalog differs

This is not a like-for-like comparison of two identical plans. InMotion offers shared and managed WordPress hosting as well as VPS, dedicated, and reseller hosting. A category’s entry price does not reveal what a matching plan will cost or include.

InMotion: multiple hosting categories

InMotion’s pricing catalog lists category starting prices of $4.79 for shared hosting, $5.29 for WordPress hosting, $13.99 for VPS, $24.99 for dedicated hosting, and $0.99 for reseller hosting. These are category entry prices, not quotes for plans matched to specific server resources. The page says promotions apply to new customers and do not extend to upgrades of existing plans. Confirm the exact introductory and renewal price for the plan and billing term you intend to buy. See InMotion’s hosting plans.

Which provider fits your kind of site?

Choose by hosting category before price

If you are deciding whether your site belongs on shared, WordPress, VPS, dedicated, or reseller hosting, InMotion’s published catalog gives you multiple categories to consider in one place. Its pricing page also lists free cPanel migration for shared hosting and free migration for cPanel sites on VPS and dedicated hosting. Treat migration as eligibility- and scope-dependent: confirm that your account and site qualify before relying on it.

Match resources and management needs

For a fair comparison, select plans built for the same workload and compare CPU, RAM, storage, transfer allowance, management level, operating-system options, and control-panel costs. An inexpensive shared or WordPress plan is not automatically a cheaper substitute for a VPS with dedicated virtual resources; equally, a VPS may be unnecessary for a site that does not need its flexibility.

  • For a site that needs server-level control, check whether the VPS is self-managed or managed and what support includes.
  • For a WordPress site, compare the actual WordPress plan’s resource limits, backup and restore provisions, and renewal price—not just its category’s advertised entry price.
  • For reseller or dedicated hosting, compare those categories directly rather than using a VPS starting price as a proxy.

How billing and advertised prices compare

InMotion’s figures are separate starting prices for five categories. They should not be treated as equivalent monthly bills.

Before choosing, calculate the expected cost for the period you will actually use the service. Verify the applicable new-customer promotion, renewal rate, billing term, and whether any quoted price is for an upgrade or a new account. Include optional backups, licenses, and other services required for your setup. Published prices and specifications can change.

What the uptime statements do—and do not—tell you

InMotion’s WordPress guarantee

InMotion advertises a 99.99% uptime guarantee for its WordPress hosting category. The stated figure applies to that product category and is not an independent measurement. Review the specific plan terms before treating the statement as a commitment that covers your site’s full stack.

Backups, scaling, regions, and migration

Backups and restore expectations

InMotion lists automatic backups on some reseller plans, so do not assume backup coverage is uniform across its catalog. Confirm retention, restore process, recovery-point limits, and whether backup storage or restores incur additional conditions.

Migration eligibility

InMotion’s pricing page lists cPanel migration offers for shared, VPS, and dedicated hosting, but eligibility and scope need confirmation for the specific account and site. If migration is central to your decision, ask what content, databases, email, DNS, and downtime coordination are included rather than assuming “free migration” covers every part of a move.

Is the host faster or more reliable?

The evidence does not support naming a performance winner. VPSBenchmarks’ comparison page, updated May 21, 2026, reported that it had tested zero VPS plans from InMotion. That describes the comparison site’s test coverage, not how the provider performs. No independent matched-plan speed or uptime result is established here, so use current tests that compare equivalent plans and conditions if performance is decisive.

A practical decision checklist

  1. Choose the hosting category. Decide whether the site needs shared, WordPress, VPS, dedicated, or reseller hosting before comparing prices.
  2. Match the workload. Compare resource allocations, traffic limits, management, operating system, and control-panel needs for plans suited to the same job.
  3. Calculate the real term cost. Include renewal pricing, billing horizon, any commitment discount, backups, and required licenses or services.
  4. Verify operational fit. Confirm migration eligibility, backup and restore terms, region availability, scale-up and scale-down options, and support coverage.
  5. Read the applicable guarantee. Check scope, measurement method, exclusions, remedies, and whether it applies to the selected product.
  6. Use measured evidence for performance claims. Do not infer speed or real-world uptime from a headline price, resource list, or guarantee percentage.
