The company upgraded power, cabling and cooling in its 60,000-square-foot facility so it could support roughly twice the high-density computing capacity, including densely racked and blade servers, within the existing structure.
What Infocrossing expanded in Tempe
Infocrossing upgraded the data center’s core infrastructure rather than adding floor space. The work focused on electrical capacity, network and equipment cabling, and cooling systems— the constraints that limit how many high-power servers a facility can operate safely.
Chief technology officer Dave Leonard described the result as an increase in “the productive capacity of the data center without a physical expansion.” The stated objective was to double capacity for high-density computing.
Power upgrades
Additional electrical capability allowed the site to support more equipment and higher rack loads. The available announcement does not state the post-upgrade megawatt capacity, utility allocation or a detailed redundancy design.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Cabling upgrades
More capable and better-organized cabling supported the networking and interconnection demands of dense server deployments. The announcement does not provide port counts, cable types or a specific network architecture.
Cooling upgrades
Higher-density racks produce substantially more heat than traditional equipment areas. Enhanced cooling enabled the facility to place more computing hardware in the same footprint without exceeding operating limits. The published material does not identify the cooling technology, efficiency rating or final heat-removal capacity.

How capacity doubled without a new building
The facility contained areas with different equipment densities. Traditional tape devices, conventional servers and mainframes used more floor space per unit of computing, while densely racked systems and blade servers delivered more computing per square foot. By increasing power delivery, cable capacity and heat removal in the high-density areas, Infocrossing could replace or supplement lower-density deployments with more productive racks.
- Increase available power: provide enough electrical capacity for additional high-load servers.
- Prepare the rack and network layout: add or reorganize cabling for densely populated cabinets and blade-server systems.
- Remove the extra heat: expand cooling capability so the higher rack loads remain within operating conditions.
- Use existing floor space more intensively: raise computing output per square foot instead of constructing another building.
This is a capacity-per-area expansion. It does not mean the building’s square footage doubled, nor does the announcement establish that every part of the facility operated at the new density.

How large was the Tempe facility?
| Item | Reported detail |
|---|---|
| Facility size | 60,000 square feet, reported by Infocrossing through Business Wire in 2007 |
| Construction year | 1998, according to the same 2007 announcement |
| Facility type | Class-A data center |
| Expansion method | Infrastructure retrofit; no physical building expansion reported |
| Target workloads | Densely racked servers and blade servers |
| Post-upgrade electrical capacity | Not stated in the published material |
The site was designed for additional power and cooling upgrades, which made an internal retrofit a practical way to add computing capacity years after the 1998 construction.
The sale-and-leaseback context
The Tempe property was part of a sale-and-leaseback transaction reported on January 6, 2006. LSAC Operating Partnership L.P. was reported to be buying the Tempe property for $12.15 million and leasing it back to Infocrossing for 20 years. The transaction covered the Tempe and Omaha facilities together and had a reported combined value of $25 million.

A current Tempe facility-records directory lists an operational Infocrossing facility and tracks Arizona Public Service among the grid operators associated with Tempe facilities. That directory does not publish a verified current megawatt capacity. The available material also does not establish a complete current ownership or operator history, so the 2007 upgrade figures should not be treated as present-day specifications.

What the project shows about data-center expansion
- Retrofits can add capacity faster than new construction: upgrading constrained infrastructure can increase output while avoiding a building project.
- Power and cooling set practical density limits: adding servers without matching electrical and thermal systems would not create usable capacity.
- Compute-per-square-foot matters: blade servers and dense racks can produce more computing from an existing footprint than traditional equipment layouts.
- Financial ownership and technical expansion are separate questions: the sale-and-leaseback explains the property arrangement, while the retrofit explains the computing-capacity increase.
