You can rebroadcast Minecraft gameplay VODs as a YouTube Live event from India by scheduling a stream in YouTube Studio and sending the video through an encoder. But a working stream does not guarantee monetization: Minecraft requires enough unique creator material, while YouTube separately reviews whether a channel’s output is meaningfully varied and original. A creator-led replay—with commentary, chat interaction, or a genuinely different edit—is a stronger choice than looping unchanged footage, though only YouTube can decide eligibility.
Can you run a Minecraft VOD rerun channel on YouTube Live?
Technically, yes: YouTube supports live streams delivered through an encoder, and an encoder can send prepared video as its input. YouTube’s setup guide explains how to connect an encoder; it does not specifically endorse a channel model built around rerunning VODs. Official sources also do not settle whether rebroadcasting an already-published VOD is categorically allowed or monetizable in every case.
Separate the technical question from two policy questions. Minecraft’s Usage Guidelines for Fans and Creators allow gameplay videos and streams, including monetized ones, when they are free to view and contain enough unique creator content. The guidelines give the creator’s own audio commentary as an example. YouTube then makes its own channel-level monetization decision under its channel monetization policies. Permission to use Minecraft, or ownership of a VOD, does not by itself satisfy that separate review.

Choose a rerun format that adds value
YouTube’s monetization rules distinguish meaningful variation and added value from content that is repetitive, mass-produced, or reused without meaningful change. The policy says, “What’s important is that the substance of each video should be materially varied and deliver creative, educational, or other value.” It also says, “Our reused content policy applies to your channel as a whole.” Review can consider the channel theme, newest and most-viewed videos, videos responsible for the most watch time, metadata, and the About section.

| Approach | Creator contribution | Practical policy risk |
|---|---|---|
| Unchanged or looping VOD | Little new material between broadcasts; chat may go unanswered. | Higher risk of appearing repetitive or low-value in a channel-level review. This is a risk, not a categorical ban. |
| Commentary-led replay | Add live explanation, respond to chat, or contextualize the gameplay as it plays. | Clearer creator contribution, consistent with Minecraft’s commentary example, but does not guarantee monetization. |
| Meaningfully reworked replay | Present a distinct edit, episode, challenge, or analysis rather than changing only the title or thumbnail. | More visible variation and added value; still subject to YouTube’s review. |
For each broadcast, make its reason to exist clear: explain a build, narrate a challenge, answer viewer questions, or present a substantially different episode. Repeatedly sending the same footage with only a new title or thumbnail is a weaker case for meaningful variation. These are practical ways to reduce risk, not a promise of acceptance.
Check eligibility before scheduling
- Age: YouTube’s live-streaming guidance states a minimum age of 16.
- Channel status: The channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days.
- First-time activation: Enabling live streaming can take up to 24 hours, so do it before the day you plan to broadcast.
- Monetization: The standard YPP threshold on YouTube’s overview is 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days. Meeting a threshold does not guarantee acceptance, and different monetization features can have different requirements.
Check the Earn tab in YouTube Studio for the features available to your account in India. The published standard thresholds do not establish the current India-specific availability of every lower-threshold, shopping, or fan-funding feature. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance, YPP overview, and monetization options.

Prepare the VOD and clear its rights
- Use gameplay you own or are authorized to broadcast. Minecraft says creators may create, use, and share videos and streams of their gameplay. Its monetization condition still requires free viewing and enough unique creator content.
- Check every audio track. Review game music, overlays, and any added soundtrack or clips. Make sure your rights cover both the live transmission and the archived replay. Minecraft’s guidelines and YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions put responsibility for rights on the creator.
- Plan your contribution. Decide how commentary, explanation, chat responses, or a distinct edit will make this broadcast different and useful to viewers.
- Consider a microphone only if you will speak live. File playback does not require one; a USB microphone is an optional way to add commentary, not a requirement for sending a VOD.
Schedule and start the stream with an encoder
- Enable live streaming in advance. In YouTube Studio, start the live-stream activation process and confirm the channel meets the age, verification, and restriction requirements. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Create the event. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and schedule the stream. Scheduling gives you an event to share and lets viewers set a reminder.
- Connect your encoder. Copy the event’s stream URL and stream key into your encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Load the prepared video as the encoder input. Use an encoder that can send a video file as its input; the exact controls depend on the encoder you choose. YouTube’s guide covers encoder connection and preview, not a specific VOD-rerun configuration.
- Preview before going live. Check the incoming video and audio in the Live Control Room. Confirm the correct event and feed are selected, then start the encoder and start or confirm the event in YouTube Studio as prompted.
- Monitor the broadcast. Check that the video continues to play and that your planned commentary or chat interaction is present. If you change or restart the encoder, verify the preview again before continuing.
- Review the archive afterward. YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours. Check the replay, any rights notices, and the channel’s monetization status after the event.

Troubleshoot common problems
- You cannot start a live stream: Check channel verification, age eligibility, and whether a live-streaming restriction occurred in the past 90 days. If this is the channel’s first activation, allow up to 24 hours.
- The Live Control Room receives no video: Confirm the encoder is using the URL and key for the scheduled event, and that the prepared video is selected as its input. Check the preview before trying to start again.
- The preview works but the wrong content appears: Verify the selected file or playlist in the encoder and preview the feed and audio before starting the event.
- The stream stops or the archive is missing: Review the encoder connection and the event status. YouTube’s cited guidance only promises automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours; do not assume a longer stream will be archived automatically.
- You receive a copyright notice: Recheck rights for every music and audio element for both live use and the replay. Remove or replace material you cannot clear; owning the gameplay does not automatically clear separately included audio.
- You are concerned about monetization review: Inspect the channel as a whole, not only the current VOD. Make creator contribution and meaningful differences between broadcasts evident; YouTube makes the final eligibility decision.
